crossfire 5770 or 7850

Thread Starter
Hello, I am new to these forums and i built my own rig yesterday/today (case arrived today, but i had it running on the table for a day xD)
anyway, i still have an old sapphire 5770 vapor-x graphics card, which is still very capable.
should i buy a new hd 7850 for about ~200€ or rather use old card and buy another 5770/6770 for like ~100€?
i would use this mainly for gaming.
if i buy 7850 i'll probably buy another after a year or 2 and crossfire then.
if i buy another 5770/6770 i'll probably buy a new card after 1-2 generations.
which is the right way to go?

Grab a 7850. Power consumption is less and performance is better than crossfire 5770's.

5770 Crossfire are faster than a 5850 and almost as fast as a 5870
http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5770-review-test/14

The 7850 costs twice as much as what he would have to pay for the crossfire for only a small amount of performance increase

I say get another 5770 and enjoy the $100 savings

sell the HD 5770. Grab a HD 7850. Your sig says a 1080p monitor. HD 5770 CF will get whacked in the latest DX 11 titles like BF3, Crysis 2, Max Payne 3. The HD 5000 series architecture is 2 generations old. In terms of DX11 architecture HD 7000 is much better than HD 6000 which in turn is better than HD 5000. HD 7000 cards use the GCN architecture which has the highest tesselation and compute performance of the 3 generations. Moreover the HD 5770 is going to run out of VRAM in titles like BF3 at 1080p with Ultra 4X MSAA. What is the point of having more GPU performance if you can't run at the highest image quality settings.

HD 7850 at 1 Ghz gives you GTX 570/ HD 6970 perf. At 1.2 Ghz perf is close to GTX 580.

Its a no brainer decision. Get the HD 7850. here are a couple of good cards

I would have to recommend the 7850 as well. I came from an HD5770, so I was in your shoes as well. I went for the HD7870 instead, but I have been seeing some folks getting some pretty sick overclocks on the HD7850, so sick that they are sometimes faster than the HD7870.

Currently the HD7850 is one of the best bang for your buck cards, next to the HD7770.
