Lian-Li PC-Q08 and Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe - Air Cooling

Thread Starter
I want to make a SFF build in the PC-Q08 with the P8Z77-I Deluxe as the mobo. The CPU will be the i7-3770K. I need a decent air cooler. So far I've considered the following:

Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B: Backplate must be modified to fit on this board, so that's out of the question.
Noctua NH-C14: Will conflict with the case's drive bays.

Noctua NH-L12: Fits, but I don't know if I can even get it in my country and it's very puny.

Prolimatech Samuel 17
Thermalright AXP-140 RT

The last two should fit, but I don't know if there will be enough room for the fans on top of them, and if the fans do fit, will there be any clearance left for intake (the PSU goes over the CPU cooler).

If anyone has the PC-Q08/ P8Z77-I Deluxe combo, or any knowledge on it, I would appreciate your input.

I think the AXP-140 RT might be a go. Here it is mounted on the board: http://www.hkepc.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=1794113&extra=&page=5

And judging by this thread it should work in the case: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1602245

I thought it would hit the PSU for sure, but it must be an optical illusion. Still, how does this:

I9wDO.jpg

Plus This:

7uB8o.jpg

Equal this much clearance:

How is that even possible?

Hello, I'm actually in the same boat as you, I bought the Shuriken Big 2 Rev B cooler, but for the love of god I cannot mount it onto the board, I drilled the hole in the backplate accordingly. I tried contacting the original poster, but no answer still. Somehow mine doesn't stand as tall (rests slightly on the vrm-board) also, how in the hell do you screw the top-right corner screw in?? The VRM and Ram make a perfect corner and with the cooler towering above closing any gaps, theres litterally no where to get into the screw which tightens the cooler onto the board. Any help would be appreciated smile.gif

Lastly Could anyone suggest a cooler I could mount easily without a problem? I just want to be able to overclock soon enough smile.gif Water coolers h60 etc is out of question...
I also use the PC-Q08...

I've can't remember, sorry. My notes on it were lost when I recently reformatted the drive they were on. And I've actually abandoned the system proposed in this thread, opting for a M-ATX based system instead.

If I remember correctly there was a picture somewhere, and the guy said he had to trim the drive bay to make it fit.

Thanks for the info. I've been following this thread http://www.overclock.net/t/1241916/cooler-for-asus-p8z77-i-deluxe

I would love to track down that post. Any idea which search terms you used or websites you used to visit. I've been searching but have been unable to find it yet. No need for you to find it for me but some hints in the right direction would help smile.gif

Many thanks

I've just been looking, and couldn't find anything. I could have been wrong... I really can't remember. All I remember is that after a lot of searching, the AXP-140 RT seemed to be the best choice as it was i\one of the highers performing low profile HSFs and there were pictures showing it installed in the PC-Q08, and on the P8Z77-I Deluxe without modification.

If you discover that the Noctua NH-C14 does fit, let me know, as I might still consider that setup for an HTPC build I'm planning and the AXP-140 RT is quite hard to get in my country.

Hi,

Just to follow up,

Here
http://www.2tog.fr/technobidouilles/TECHNOBIDOUILLES/temoignage-Q08-NH-C14-b.html
NH C14 on Zotac 9300 board in PC-Q08, it doesn't interfere with the drive cage. But I haven't been able to track down NH-C14 on P8Z77-I in PC-Q08 or comments about the drive cage!

From here
http://www.overclock.net/t/1241916/cooler-for-asus-p8z77-i-deluxe/40
Diagram of NH-C14 on P8Z77-I. By estimation, it looks like NH-C14 will fit on P8Z77-I with the pipes running north/south.

You can see a photo of NH-C14 clearing the VRM board on the P8Z77-I

NH-C14 won't fit on Zotac Z68 ITX in PC-Q08 but the P8Z77-I has the socket in a very different position.

I remember that diagram.

Well just imagining that diagram super imposed over pictures of other mobos in the case, don't you think the heatsink is going to hit the 5.25" and HDD cage? It certainly looks that way to me.
