Help with HAF X side panel mod.

New is an understatement for the experience I have modding cases. I do however love my computer and want to take it a step further by really making it my own. I'm positive I can handle the work that needs to be done. I just really need a nudge, or push in the right direction. I am wanting to cut a full size window in the side panel of my HAF X. I want to do this the right way though. No two sided tape or ghetto adhesive. I want to mount the glass securely, properly, and with a professional look and feel. My plan is to cut out the 200mm side fan and widen the entire window by an inch. I then want to fit my glass and add two 120mm fans holes into the glass. I'm having trouble finding a real thorough explination of a proper way to do this. I have limited access to tools and what not also. I can get drills, hole cutters, saws, and sanders etc. I just don't have access to a machine shop or anything. (tips for tools to use and making cuts with said tools will be super helpful, just pretend I'm a dummy and talk to me like I'm 5) Please all advice, tips, tricks, or just plain old walk throughs are welcome. I am a very visual person so links to good videos or guides with good pictures are welcome. Thank you guys!

There is nothing wrong with using some double sided tape to secure the window. If done well it will look amazing and will never come off unless you really wanted to pry it off. With that said take a look at MNPCTECH, they have some tutorials on their site that will help. http://www.mnpctech.com/CaseModTutorials.html
If you still dont think tape is good for you then you could order some plastic pop lock rivets.

I have these on my case window and they work great.

I have used two-part epoxy adhesive and decent amount of hot glue on 2 different window mods. neither has come off. also recommend the tape as an easy no fuss solution. I have also used metal rivets with the heads on the acrylic side, I assume washers may also work for the back, but this is a very dangerous option as if you put too much force on the rivets the plexi can crack, although I never had a problem with it using aluminium rivets. biggrin.gif

Sebar, your side panel looks pretty good. I enjoy the factory look of the rivets. My aprehensions with two sided tape or adhesive is more an aesthetics issue for me rather than worrying if the window will hold up. Thank you very much for the links though you have been a big help and I now know exactly what I am going to do. Now to just find the right fan grills and I am on my way. I will definitely be logging my progress on this mod on OCN in the future. My side panel will be just the beginning.

Just be very careful when you are drilling the holes for in the acrylic. Use a sharp bit and let the drill bit do the cutting. If you put a lot of pressure on the drill the acrylic will crack. learned this the hard way.

you can make a Acrylic bit that will do a much better job without cracking and binding. just grind down the edges of the bit except for the last 1/4 inch. that way when you drill thro the sheet it dosnt grab and wallow out the hole.
