$150 990FX Board: Open Box Crosshair V or New Gigabyte UD3? - Page 5

Crosshair V hands down. Gigabyte's bios is still not up to mark with the CHV. Even the lower end 990s since to have bios glitches of some sort.
I still have a 990FX-UD5 and yet I still prefer my M4A88TD-M Evo. LOL.

old school bios FTW

Neither. Open box = no warranty and Gigabyte Ga-990FXA-UD3 = horrible mother board. i would go with the sabertooth, brand new, and save yourself the head ache on both of those ideas thumb.gif

I know the price probably looks good, but don't order something as important as a motherboard on open box.
your much better off buying a brand new board, with a warranty. I had a bad experience with newegg and open box deals, ordered a DVD burner, when it arrived the sata port on the back of the drive was completely chipped off. ordering an open box mobo really is a gamble, if it arrives busted, you'll have to return it to newegg, thats time and money wasted shipping it back to them.

I'd say: Get the CH V. I've had it for a while and it was the best motherboard I ever had. With some luck you'll get a good one for a great price. But the Sabertooth truckerguy linked is pretty close as well, it was a toss-up for me at the time but I went for the CH V and was very happy. The only bad thing about it was the socket, I wish it had the LGA1155 socket biggrin.gif

What issues do the people suggesting against the UD3 have with Gigabyte? Tweatown uses the UD series for their platforms fairly often.

I only have experience with DFI and ASUS as far as enthusiast boards. I'm wary of ASRock because of their old reputation not being so great. Had an old MSI I barely OC'ed on as my first board, and no real opinion on BIOSTAR. Thoughts on BIOSTAR, ASRock, or MSI?

If I take the budget to $180 it includes the UD5, Sabertooth, and ASRock Fatal1ty. My primary concern is dual x16 PCI-E 2 (since AMD doesn't support PCI-E 3 yet) and compatability with AMD's new architectures.
