Should I push further? (core i7 930 @ 4.48Ghz)

Thread Starter
Im using intelburn for my stability tests. I recently changed my 2000rpm coolermaster fans to 3000rpm ultra kaze fans on my thermochill 360 rad so I have a bit more headroom in the heat department. My max temps are so far are 82C during stability testing. I also upgraded my motherboard to a Rampage III and overclocking seems a lot easier than it was with my EVGA board

Im currently running the i7 930 @ 4.48Ghz with 1.468v vcore. How much vcore is too much?

Are you trying to get a stable OC and run it 24/7 or for just pure benchmarks? My highest vcore for my 930 was 1.58... I was using dry ice though. I'll be honest, the highest you should put it at is 4.5. That is what I run mine on when I'm rendering things and leaving it alone for a long time, but I run 4.4 24/7 normally.

It all depends on how long you're planning to run your rig.
If it's for 24/7 purposes, I would stop right there, maybe even lower the voltage a little.
In any event, I wouldn't go beyond 1.5V as it is very likely to degrade your CPU a lot faster than if you stay under it.
If it's for benchmarking purposes, I've seen people go beyond 1.6V, but that was on LN2. But generally, I'd stop at 1.49V unless you intend to get the highest possible benchmark ever, and even then...

I would still recommend you to lower it. I get around 70C @ 4.4 and I don't have a problem. But I still refrain from going too high. Too high of a vcore can kill your PC.

Is there an official i7 930 overclockers club thread on here? Maybe I can get a sense of what the average speed people are running at

Hmm that seems quite low. What are some of the higher numbers with a regular water loop (no chillers or phase changer)
