[Work Log] The Box

"The Box"

Hi!

My current build is on the floor, hard to clean, hard to reach and claustrophobic. Yes, my desk looks large and clean, but that box on the floor to rest my feet on, is actually my computer case. A mod I was happy with at the time, but now I want something different.

Old Build

"The Box" (Working title) is going to be anything but. Large, on top of a desk, lots of space, easy access to everything, easy to upgrade/change. This is my hobby, and I want a spent a lot of time on this, planing, drawing, building, and getting all the details right.

Thank you for checking out my project thumb.gif

CONSEPT (Click to show)

I have bought two of these that I have modded, and put one on top of the other.

So I'm basically building a two storey bench, that Ill build a bit of scaffolding around, cover it with this foam filter, and CNC some nice covers for. I have a few sketches, think it will turn out cool. See planed layout below.

On top:

MB

Top compartment:

Fan/pump controller
HDDs
Drive
Water filters

Bottom compartment:

PSU
Pumps
Flow meters
Safety/drain res
Hiding cables/tubes

I have bought a cheap samsung 27" that Ill use as a single while I build/mod. Ill buy 2 more, or 3 new ones for a new 3x1440 surround setup when the build is finished. In the meantime I can use the surround setup from my old build, with 3 24" samsungs as well. Plan is to end up with surround setups for both my PC's. Never know, maybe Ill get a friend sometime.

Reflections/Experiences/Thoughts while building:
EK Water blocks (Click to show)

After mounting all my EK WBs (7), and rads (2), I am left with a mediocre impression.
The quality seems mostly grate, but the details keep dragging it into the mud.

Leftovers from the threading, in metal and plastic alike. Small scratches, twisted details on the rads.

All in all, I do not regret getting EK WBs, but I can't highly recommend them. Also I don't like the new circle-matrix theme of theirs at all...

Build quality: 6-7 / 10

Cooling; we'll know in a little...

I'm having a bit of trouble seeing what the point of the two bottom compartments is. Are you planning on putting pumps/reservoirs in there or are they only for the radiators?

EDIT:
Oh, and the PSU of course.

MB
Fan/pump controller
HDs
DVD
water filters
PSU
pumps
flow meters
safety/drain res
hiding cables/tubes in the top of the bottom compartment.

Want plenty of space around all components. Ill CNC nice covers for the openings with air filters.
Should leave enough space to have good airflow to the radiators. thumb.gif
