Have you tried right clicking the game .exe and choosing "verify integrity of game cache"? Thanks

Fallout 3 works fine on my PC. I've never had to do anything special to make it run. Did you try it without fixes?

I assume you have Windows 7. The game did not run as it was, out of the box that is (Steam).

I wonder if it has to do with the latest AMD catalyst driver.

I do indeed have W7. What are your system specs?

It has nothing to do with systems specs. I build my computer not too long ago with a hefty price. Especially for a game that is 4-5 years old. I'm just not doing something right. Hopefully someone will see the steps I went through and help me trouble shoot.

Here it is again:

Okay, so in downloads, I didn't double click the .dll file, but dragged it to windows, open the F03 folder and dropped it in there. It shows as a DLL file, not as an application extension. I ran the game. At first I couldn't even pass the birth, but now I've passed the create name and character, heard the mother go through a cardiac arrest and seen the father encourage the child to walk up to him and then it freezes? Any suggestions?

These are the things I've done:
1. Changed bUseThreadedAI=1 and added iNumHWThreads=2. (I only have a duel core, i3-2120 so it's not a quad core issue.)
2. Added d3d9.dll to Fallout folder which appears as a DLL file type
3. In the game options, change all auto saves to off.
4. Added 1.7 Patch: http://adf.ly/6UMqE
5. Turned off antialiasing and anisotropic filtering.
6. Clicked on Compatibility and clicked on check box that says Windows XP pack 3

Yep, you've already said all that. I'll say again, what are your system specs?

Also, you shouldn't be using that patch! That is likely what broke it. Steam patches games itself. Never apply an official patch to a steam game! You will likely need to re-download if you can't find another way to undo the patch,

I only placed the patch about 4 hours ago. The game did not play even without the patch. I doubt it is the patch. But I'll find a way to remove the patch since it is not helping any ways.

Uninstall and Reinstall from steam.

Don't fiddle with the game folders. The game works. If you are having trouble its on your end. Verify game cache integrity and update video card drivers.
