Hi fierceleaf,

According to VJ Pande at the Stanford site, the gpu should fold 20 to 30 times faster. That's why the tremendous amount of effort going into this research/programming. Again according to VJ, even with all of the computers folding with cpus, they were not getting far enough, fast enough. The gpu client folding was hoped to be the real turning point with regards to speed. They are still working the bugs out and hope to have the beta program ending in a couple of months. Then the release of the folding client for everyone's use would be available. They are also working on a dual gpu client folding program as well...

Here's a link if you're interested:

Here's a link to the specific ATI's gpu:

As always, stability with your computer is paramount with the gpu client!

I hope this helped, :-)

Hi jigglylizard,

Interest is a very good thing. Here's a link to satisfy that need:

I hope this helped and Fold On! :-)

hrm... i downloaded the latest dual gfx card client. and tried that. it completed a 600 point wu just a few minutes ago.

but after that. as soon as one started runing it would shutdown and start another :S so it seems its a bit more stable but not "100% working" :'( i think il redownload files and try it agian. "maybe they got currupt?"

edit: moved the file to a new dir and started over. didnt help. this time il try compeltly redownloading the file! il update this post with more info

Shame that it's X1900 only at the moment. As soon as they release one for the G71, I'm going for it.

They won't. It's not worth it on Nvidia cards because they work differently.

I tried it as soon as it was released and had several issues and had to stop as I was trying to get this system dialed in. I tried to change my screen resolution with the GPU client and 1 CPU client running and the system crashed, when it rebooted my USB drivers were corupt and I had to do a complete re-format/re-install of Windows.

I also checked in at the Stanford forums but didn't see anything about resolving any issues saving the progress if you wanted to shut down the core, ect.....

So if you have been using the GPU client, please share your experiences.....
Hey Thumper,

Just some more feedback on the gpu folding.

My folding rig with an X1950XTX, AMD 64 3500 (Venice core) and ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe M/B runs a work unit every 12 to 13 hours....
That's 330 points for each WU. About 660 per day. Perhaps 55 to 60 WU's per month. That's between 18,000 and 19,800 points per month.
As of right now with the version 7 client, things have been very stable for the past week. Not one EUE!!!

I'm also running the Catalyst 6.10 drivers and a clean install of Windows XP Home. Nothing else!!! I don't use the computer for anything, but folding.

BTW - the Dual Client version for Dual SLI video cards is now in beta.

I hope this helped, :-)

Hi Korbelz,

I don't think you can change the machine ID. That is set by the program/client to identify you or the computer you're folding on. It is also how Stanford awards points to you and your computer.

I had some difficulties with the console version myself. So I went the graphical client route. Since the computer only folds, I had no concerns about resource issues or the like. That might not work for you...

You might want to check the Stanford site links for the FAQ section concerning your console version not running correctly. I've been over there reading the lastest on the gpu folding issues, and haven't been here at OCN very much over the past few weeks...

I hope this helped, even if it wasn't much to go on, :-)
