Overclocking HD 7770

I followed this guide: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/HD_7770_DirectCU/29.html

and overclocked my card close to the reference
Quote:
Maximum stable clocks of our card are 1185 MHz core (6% overclock) and 1510 MHz Memory (31% overclock).

Great GPU overclocking. 1185 MHz is the highest clock we have seen on the six cards reviewed today. Unfortunately memory OC does not work so well. 1510 MHz is the lowest result seen today.

I pressume they oc'ed without touching the voltage. How much more can I gain if I raise my voltage? And how much should I maximum raise it to?

1.25V is max i believe 7770 usually tops out at around 1200mhz Core and 1500 memory :v

Idle it's 0.900, when I run a game it goes up to 1.200. So you can just OC it 0.05V?

0.05v seems small but it's pretty big though. i'm running on a tad lower voltage at load though of course my video card has a higher binned GPU chip so doesn't require much voltage for it to be stable at 1200/5400 speed smile.gif

Now a little headache, once in a while when I boot up, my Windows desktop becomes all weird, the screen starts to flicker and the mouse moves slow. Does this have something to do with the OC? Other time it goes just well...

what in game gains are you seeing with this overclock as i have the same card and might give it a go

OC maybe unstable if it's doing that..

The unstableness only occurs when on idle overclocked:

GPU Core: 300Mhz
GPU Memory Clock: 150Mhz
VDDC: 0.900 V

Strange I restarted my PC with no oc and the voltage is 0.825V standard on idle. So the issue only occurs on different voltages, like 0.900 V...

One other thing overclocked in CCC max 1300Mhz memory clock and core 1100Mhz the voltage returns to 0.825V after exiting a game. So is the issue Afterburner or that I go above the limit 1300Mhz which I can do in Afterburner even if I have the same clocks in Afterburner as I had in CCC < I found the override box in GPU Tweak so I'm going to try with that one now instead of Afterburner...

The issue seems to come with Afterburner, as Afterburner raises the idle Voltage to 0.950 on idle. I don't know if I can manage the idle and load voltages another way? Or how I can try with Asus GPU Tweak to see how it handles it. The only problem with GPU Tweak is that it too is limited to 1300Mhz.

Solution
is to use Asus GPU Tweak, works flawlessly.

Just overall for all games. And even old games sometimes need it at instances when allot of graphics needs to be displayed.
