OC Help ! Intel i5 2500K + Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3

Thread Starter
Hi guys,
I just got my new rig and config is following:

CPU: Intel i5 2500K
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX)
PSU: LC-Power LC8750II V2.3 Prophecy 2 - Metatron Gaming Series

As you can see I have a good set up, but I dont have much experiance with Intel CPU overclocking and I need help to do it..
I red like a thousand tuts on how to do it, and everybody have a different opinion headscratch.gif
I played around only with cpu voltage and multiplier (and set ram timings, freq and volt), but I cant get a decent stabile overclock without bumping voltage too high frown.gif

So, I need someone to tell me what settings I should try and test, or to teach me what to do at all (or what some settigns mean and how high should I push them) and I go tweek it myself and come back with results..

Thanks everyone in advance and I hope someone will get the time to explain me what I need to do wave2.gif

Can you tell us what you can be stable at (voltage + multiplier?) Thanks wink.gif .

I got 4.5ghz on 1.34vcore... Anything I tried above that was stabile in tests (prime, linx etc), but in the end proved to be unstable when I played demanding games like bf3 for example, and bsod me after a few hours of playing frown.gif

strange, compared to prime and so on bf3 is not demanding at all. it must be another problem, not your cpu overclock.

When you say it was stable in tests, how long did you run the tests for before you declared them stable?

I run linx for ~3hours and than "real life use test" playing cod mw3 or bf3 on maxed settings for a few hours as well.. If I don't get bsod when I test it that way, I wont get it ever.. Its what I learned about my config while I was messing around with it..
Sooo... Any settings to share with me?? Or steps to take on how to oc it on this mobo??

It actually IS just as easy as changing the Vcore and what not. 1.34 volts for 4.5 is good. I am running 4.8 at 1.448 volts. I am using the offset and it is at +.1. Just bump up a little at a time. I would suggest running prime95 for at least 12 hours. If it makes it through that, then it should stable for 24/7 use.

Are you oc'ing anything else like your GPU? The CPU should not really be used while gaming. Perhaps you have an unstable gpu oc.

And what about vccio and pll voltage.. I red a few posts today and everyone suggested something about that.. I tried to get stabile 4.8ghz clock with some 80-90C temp (and still am trying, I write this from laptop..), but just cant do it frown.gif
Can u post me ss of ur "offset voltage" or tell me how to type it in, I dont understand what u wrote there.. confused.gif
I have Cross-Fire:
SAPPHIRE FleX HD 6870 1GB GDDR5
+
SAPPHIRE HD6850 1GB GDDR5
And they are synced to run on same clocks (for 6870), so the 6850 is slightly oced, but I dont think that's a prob cause I run stabile 4.5ghz on 1.34v with same clock.. If that was a problem, it would crack on that clocks too..

First of all, you need to fill out you rig info in you signature. Use the rig builder link in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Also, post pics of your bios settings.

We need to know what hardware you have and what your setting are. I could show you my settings all day, but if you have a different motherboard, it will be worthless.
