I5 2500k (clock by core)

Thread Starter
Hi!

Well I have recently set my vcore at offset (instead of the manual) it works well.
However, there is a pinch. I have set C3 & C6 on disable (which I heard thats you should if you use the offset voltage)
But when I have set them on the disable the "clock village core" funktion is not working.
In bios I have set 4 core/4.6ghz, 3 core/4.7ghz, 2 core/4.8ghz, 1 core/4.8ghz.
But once inside windows its only 4.6ghz.
If I Set C3 & C6 on auto / enable, it works perfect: 4.6/4.7/4.8/4.8ghz in windows.

Someone here who can come up with tips / info / suggestions on how I can do?

Why would you set the core to different clocks???

Because the cpu then is running on a higher clock speed when i use apps/games that do not support 4 core.
(to put it easy its just like a stock i5 2500k 3.3ghz /3.8 turbomode, but mine is 4.6ghz/4.8ghz in turbo mode)

Hi,

Since April mate wink.gif CPU uses around 5-10W on idle (leaning towards 5) when it downclocks to 1.6GHz and kicks back up to 4.5GHz when needed without any hesitation.

Which motherboard do you have?

I mean, maybe this only applies to the P8P67 series because I remember this being talked about a lot in the thread below:

>>The Official ASUS P8P67/P8Z68 & P8Z68/GEN3 Series Owners Club>>

As for setting a different speed for each core, I think that it's much easier to just set them all to the same speed.  The simpler, the better.

What happens with this problem so I can keep my eye out? As far as I've had it, it's been decent enough with no probs frown.gif

I've been learning lately that it can also depend on other settings, like the Load-Line Calibration setting.

Usually though, having C3 and C6 enabled with an Offset can result in problems while the system is idling, like lock-ups and BSODs.  It happened to me, I asked about it in that thread, and then I learned about disabling them.  I haven't had any problems since and it's been nearly a year to the day.

Edit:  I just remembered, I had C3 and C6 set to Auto and it still happened to me!

Ah, no I seem to be ok when it's idling and such. I got a freeze during Deus Ex a couple of weeks ago, but investigating the error logs shows the sound card driver as the culprit (something to do with OpenAL, I think) so I found a newer version of PAX and installed that. That's the first I've had since I got the CPU in April. I had a 2500 (non-k) on loan from a friend before that with similar settings. Even had the BSCLK overclocked ot get to 4GHz without a hitch, though I wasn't using offset then thinking.gif I'm on the latest BIOS revision too (updated it prior to the CPU)

Does it affect the power usage with C3 and C6 off? I may well just turn them off if it doesn't affect my low power draw in idle. That was the bit winner for me... means the missus doesn't complain too much about my PC being on.

I'm going to join that club now anyways =D
