I bought WHS from NE when they had it on sale. Went to install it today and it will not activate. According to MS the key is either invalid or in use. It arrived to me completely sealed so it doesn't make any sense how it could be in use. I emailed NE early this AM and have not heard back from them. Has this ever happened to any of you guys? Any ideas?

Finally heard back from New Egg and they pretty much told me to pound sand
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. After reviewing your account, we show that your item is non-replaceable. Please kindly note that our return policy is decided by the manufacturer as we are strictly a reseller. Therefore, we are not able to issue a replacement RMA for you or it will be a total loss of Newegg."
So it looks like I'm out $35 and NE lost another customer after 12 years. This really sucks and if anyone has any advise I'm all ears.

They did nothing wrong... and they didn't.
Basically, they are telling you to call Microsoft. Someone probably just used your key via typo or generator.

See my issue is I purchased from NE not MS. It would be like I go to my local Chevy dealer and buy a new Camaro, later I need service and they tell me to contact GM in Detroit
Oh well I've been screwed over before and I'm sure it'll happen again.
I put together a email with all the info and sent it to my states attorney who hopefully will help. If not no biggie and another lesson learned. Thanks for the replies.

Never used home server, but is the activation process similar to other retail versions of Windows for home use?
I know that when you use an OEM key to activate a stock copy of Windows, the key will work but the product won't activate; you will then be given the option to do phone activation which is extremely easy/convenient. Windows generates 10 blocks of 6 digits (IIRC), you read them to the robot, the robot reads you back some numbers to type in, hit OK and voila it's activated

But software is not a car.

You have not been screwed over. You do not need to call a lawyer. This is EASILY resolvable if you just follow the directions. Doesn't it say how to activate since your key does not work?

Yeah I had to call MS and thats when they told me my key was invalid and to return it. So NE won't help and neither will MS. Hopefully the states attorney will as they have really helped me out before.

Duckie is correct on this one.
In fact most if not every store will have the same non return policy to stop people returning activated keys or activating the key after returning it.
All you need to do is call MS and explain, seeing as you have the COA sticker you have proof you have purchased it and MS will activate for you.
