Got a USB 3.0 HDD but transfer is very very slow (new topic)

I am in the market of upgrading my existing 500GB HDD which is USB 2.0

Which USB 3.0 portable HDD is a great one at the moment.

I am thinking of the Western Digital My Passport series.

I will only use it to store pictures and other stuff.

Hmm the GoFlex one seems good but a bit expensive. I will probably wait for a price drop on them.

I will not be buying the other USB 3.0 drives if the performance difference is minimal or non existing. No need to spend money :)

There was a sale on a Toshiba Canvio USB3.0 external HDD and i picked it up

Now i am on our summer house with my laptop i use for work. The laptop is Asus G73Sw and has USB 3.0.

When i connect my HDD via USB 3.0 it takes a very long time for files to transfer

When i connect the HDD via USB 2.0 ports the files are faster.

Do i have to enable something?

I will also try this with my main rig which is at home and see if the problem is with the laptop's USB port.

Weird stuff.

Usb 3.0 is transfering way slower.

When I connect the HDD via USB 2.0 it also gives a message saying that if i use a Super Speed USB 3.0 port the files will transfer faster.

Well i will try it in my main rig tomorrow night and see what it is. If the problem persists i will be changing the HDD from the retailer.

I am just installing the drivers right now and see what happens.

I also experienced this.

The file I tried to transfer from my laptop to the external HDD was a 6.5 GB file with 1700 pictures in it. That folder took over 10 minutes to transfer via USB 3.0

I than transfered a 2.1 GB folder with 700 pictures in it and that took less than 30 seconds.

I wonder if the USB drive or the HDD are having issues with lots of file sizes.

Anyway I will try momentarily with the new drivers

On a differentnote. I have the motherboard Sabertooth Z77 that i bought from you. Should i look for the drivers in the Asus page or should i download drivers from the manufacturer for that motherboard as well? maybe the drivers on the site for Z77 is also old.
