[FUD] AMD 8350 is a 4.0GHz eight-core

Q4 arrival and 4Ghz over 8 cores; and IPC will far improve over Bulldozer, as we know from Trinity. Not bad.  If the improvements are nice and I have cash, then I'm looking forward to dropping one into my board thumb.gif

Quote:
Last week we managed to get some information about AMD’s upcoming FX 8350 and you can check it out here.

However, today we learned that AMD will push this CPU from Q3 to early Q4 2012 as now it claims that it can launch this processor in late October. AMD FX 8350 is an eight-core with 16MB cache, Vishera based 32nm core with 4.0GHz default clock and ability to jump to 4.2GHz with turbo core automatic overclocking.

Given that Trinity APU was soundly able to beat Llano APU/Phenom II IPS & IPW and closely match (if not beat? I'm not sure) IPC it looks like we could finally be seeing some classy performance with an AMD CPU.  Remember: the FX-8350 also has the L3 cache boost that Trinity APU doesn't have; and given the later release, may have different/further improvements.  The first-gen FX could OC much farther than Phenom II; so with at least Phenom II-class IPC, more cores, and still lower power consumption (Bulldozer FX improved power consumption from Phenom II per core and Piledriver FX will go further - remember, you could fit 4 Trinity cores & full 7660G GPU into 65W TDP) , looks like we'll have some serious processor options from AMD later this year.

This is a 125W TDP part by the way guys so choose your board wisely (VRMs count! pun not intended)

Please take note of the section; rumors.

This is basically an 8 core Phenom 2 that overclocks better, not exactly a beast this article makes it out to be.

Who knows, could be more.  Note that it'll also consume far less power per core.  If the pricing model stays as it is then both the FX quad and hexa core would be very strong options for the market.

Doubt it will be a world beater, but AMD need to come back with a solid chip.

They will have their work cut out to get me back using one of their processors.

it is compared to the current FX line up. This means AMD are improving instead of just walking backwards. If I read correctly it should have a better IPC than Phenom 2. So it is faster core for core, uses less power, has MOAR CORZ and clocks higher. For all the people with an AM3+ mobo and a sad face this comes as a welcome surprise. Now if the price is also as nice as it is now. It could be a very good cpu to choose price/performance wise.

This could overclock even further as well.  I don't believe there are any Trinity tests yet but one thing I'm confident in is resonant mesh technology (which will pass on to FX Piledriver) that, while allows for power savings with higher clock speeds, I think could also raise the clock speed barrier.

I think the price points will be comparable to Bulldozer FX.

So $100-$120 for the quad, $150-180 for the hexa, and $200-270 for the octo.

I have had the same install of Windows 7 going from the moment I installed my SSD in April 2010 through a Phenom II x4 -> x6 upgrade, a 790X AM3 -> AM3+ upgrade, and now to an x6 -> 8350 upgrade as well.  I think it's almost brag-worthy.  Going AM3+ didn't even cost me anything because I got an awesome deal on the GA-990XA-UD3.  I have found this platform to have been a much more cost-efficient choice for my needs (and my needs = coarz!) and upgrade desires!

A phenom II x8 that can probably hit 5ghz, pretty sure a lot of people would be interested in this.

So let me get this straight. AMD is now competing with itself and Intel is now competing with ITSELF? Great.
