[FUD] AMD 8350 is a 4.0GHz eight-core - Page 4

8-core Phenom II chip that overclocks well is fine by me!

I would buy that chip. And I haven't been interested in an AMD chip since Phenom II + Llano.

And yes, AMD will never beat Intel. The most important thing is improving their single-threaded performance to a point where they can give a decent alternative to Intels quadcores.

Definitely not in the next few years. There can be a day when the tables turn however. Although I would prefer a market where neither company was the obvious underdog, that's healthier for competition.

Anything 10%+ IPC on PII and i'll make the leap too. Need to loosen the leash on my 7970's without blowing $600+ on an intel platform.

If you can take it on a regular basis to 4.8GHz as most FX chips do... It is indeed a beast considering you get lower power consumption and considerably higher performance thumb.gif

$400 for a pretty good board for OC'ing, and a 3570k, and those 7970's will no longer have a lease.

I would love for neither company to be the underdog either, so that processors from both would have to be extremely cheap (Intel), but with Intel's massive R&D budget, and the lead they have right now, it may be more then a few years before AMD can match them..

What?

IB was nothing more than a die shrink.....it wasn't meant to increase performance by much at all, just to introduce a smaller transistor size (32nm to 22nm). It is the same as going from a q6600 to q8300. The only difference between the two was 65nm to 45nm transistors.....this is how intel works with their tick tock system. Haswell will increase performance by the margin you are wrongfully assumed IB was to have.

Exactly, if I could add 2 cores to my 1090T and overclock it to almost 5 GHz... I would not be looking to upgrade any time soon.

Or he could wait for Piledriver and buy an FX 8350 for 200-$250... I am pretty sure all you did was reinforce his statement.

i don't need a lecture about intel cpu's trust me I know more than you do lol. however you slice it IB is a bust. even with a die shrink OC headroom didn't improve because of the heat(no one expected this). again the point im trying to make is the time to strike for amd is N-O-W. if they can't pull of a good performing chip then it's bye-bye for their high end market. we all know intel has more than a couple of tricks under their sleeves
