But I wouldnt do that. Why? Well, only marginal gains with Ivy. Yes it is true that I can drop it in and my comment was about the ability to drop it in. The other note is that Ivy does not overclock in z68 well, or at all. Some z68 users have an unlocked ivy chip in a z68 mobo but cannot OC it. Though I believe there might have been some tool released so they could OC it.

I do not think AMD has such issues with generation to generation, but I am not an AMD guy and dont know much about any possible issues with AMD's cpus staying in the same mobo style from one gen to the next.

edit: I wasnt saying that AMD was better for it, I was saying its a nice thing. Sure, losing features, but they are a budget-minded company (IE targeting budgeted users) and if the user did not have to change his whole motherboad out (anywhere from $50-$200) thats a lot of money back in pocket.

Well, that's what has to happen, because Intel has crushed AMD, so Intel vs AMD is a pointless competition. wink.gif

why do you think your 8150 isn't capable to push 2x7970. I mean 2x7970 are extremely overkill for a single 1080p monitor. That is why you are getting low gpu usage. Just try eyefinity or 120hz monitor setup, I bet your gpus usage will be 90+ in most games. Yeah it is true 2.2GHz HyperTransport bus (GPU to CPU and CPU to GPU bandwidth) is not totally enough for 7970s. You only need to increase HT frequency to 3.0-3.2GHz and youre done. And If I am not wrong then FX cpu officially supports 6.4GT/s (full duplex) with 990FX chipset. ......And for PCIe 3.0, GTX 680 and 7970 are very entry level GPUs.

...and I know more than you.

IB is not a bust. I want some for my servers but they will not be available for almost another year. Temperature is not as important as performance/watt. Heat is irrelevant when talking about performance/watt.

If you think CPU companies can just "strike", then you really do not know the industry.

Any DX11 game will bring a pair of 7970's to normalcy at 5760 x 1080 resolution. You'd be sub 100 fps with most games on average and dipping to 60 30 fps at times. Scratch all that, it's even worse.... you'd be lucky to get above 60 fps even with a Intel Core i7-3960X @ 4GHz...

Nope

BFBC2 is DX11 and a 8150 chokes a pair of 6970s, nevermind 7970s lol

Link? For Eyefinity is what we are talking now, remember? I gave a link that shows two 7970's struggling to output even 40 - 50 fps at 5760 x 1080 resolution... with one of Intel's top CPUs... in most DX11 games.
