Why would buy Ivy in the future and not now?..

The WF3 from Gigabyte is quieter and actually cooler than the DCII from asus, this generation Asus really messed it up with the HDT base, best seen on the 7970, less on the 680(being a less thirsty GPU than the 7970), on 670 it does well however(the GPU actually sips power, so not much heat to dissipate to begin with).

now this should be ok 520 W it will be fine with extra cooler and OC CPU

If Unoriginal Sin is correct (and I'd say that he is, otherwise he wouldn't be taking his time to say these things), then I'd go with the Gigabyte 680 he mentioned.  Brand loyalty is cool, but sometimes brand loyalty has to be thrown out the window.  It sounds like this DirectCU II is just not good enough for the GTX 680.  I mean, it sounds like ASUS didn't take the time to make a better version of it even though they should have.

So I'm saying that it sounds like the cooler on the Gigabyte 680 is better for the 680 than the DirectCU II is.  I'd even go as far as saying that it sounds to me like it is possible that ASUS shouldn't even be using the DirectCU II for the GTX 680.

Of course, I am only going by what Unoriginal Sin said.  I haven't done any research yet.

Tiny Tom Logan from overclock3d.net said that the Gigabyte GTX 680 Windforce 3 was bad compared with the other cards with aftermarket coolers
I have the Asus GTX 680 CU II and i love it, It is the most silent card i have ever owned.
Mine is impossible to hear no matter how hard i press it and i have never got the fans on it above 33%

Quoting Tom Logan as a source of insight on such matters is like taking self medication advice from Charlie Sheen..

duno whats wrong about asus video card ?biggrin.gif its best and most important quiet.
Asus PCB board is about half the thickness of other vendors..I don't recommend Asus for videocards.
Sapphire,MSI,EVGA,Gigabyte are the best videocard makers..next tier down=powercolor,HIS..etc..then XFX
XFX is sturdy..but lock out voltage control.

And on what do you base that judgement?
