I installed a Corsair H80i cooler on my new PC build, and installed Ubuntu 12.10. I use pSensor to watch temps, etc. I notice the temperatures on the Core i7-3820 to be higher than I expected. Not only higher but each core has a different temp. At idle, the lowest temp is 20C and the highest core temp is 34C. Puzzling. Any notions?
The fans run well. I can't tell if the pump is working, it is very quiet. by the way, I know the pump has power. When I boot the system up, the pump is very loud for about 10 seconds. After that, very quiet.
In my last 4 builds I have had typical temps at idle of cpus 3 to 4 degrees Celsius BELOW room temperature. Also, the temps of the CPUs were all within one to 3 degrees of each other.
All those builds, until this new one, used high tower coolers with fans (Sunbeam Tuniq Towers were on two of them). two of the builds were /are in an Antec 1200. The last two are in the Silverstone Fortress FT02. Prior to this build, I had a Core I7-870 1155 with the tuniq tower. Two years have worn out the motherboard, so I upgraded to the current situation. New motherboard, cpu, etc.
The 'truly' new thing I tried this time is the Corsair H80i water cooler. My purpose was to reduce the weight on the motherboard and put the weight on the case. This part worked. What I don't know is if the water pump is getting 'powered', via the USB port I plugged it into on the motherboard. And the pump is pretty quiet, so I am having troubles making sure things are ok.
I noticed the pSensor (Ubuntu 12.10 is my OS) seems to have some issues identifying the parts on my motherboard. Rampage IV Formula 2011 socket.
The end result is I am attempting to ensure I did the build well, and to confirm what is 'normal' temps. Idle values:
Physical ID 0 32c
Core 0 25c
Core 1 24c
Core 2 32c
Core 3 31c
Temp1 35c
Then 5 hard drives, temps ranging 28c to 32c
cpu Usage 8%
Where on my 4 year old dual core cpu system, all the parts have labels that make sense, Like NB (northbridge), etc.,
Any hints or advice on confirming the Corsair H80i is working as it should?
