Even before I started building pcs, before buying any device I was checking reviews in both magazines and on the the internet, I was trying to find different people who already owned the product I wanted to get a better overview as well as pros and cons and price/performance.
You can thank Consumer Reports and the like for that mentality. Do you have any idea how hard it is to sell a TV or sound system because of them?
Cust - "I want Bose because they are rated the best"
Me - "Have you heard their systems or other ones?"
Cust - "No but they are the best and that is what I want!"
Me - "Well lets take a second just to demonstrate their system and a competator and see what sounds better to you. Sound good?"
Cust - "No I want the Bose!"
This happend on a daily basis when I worked at Circuit City many many years ago. Absolutely infurating. No I did not work on commision, they ended that in '01 or '02. All the average consumer cares about it what some "profesional" review says and that it works. They don't even care about the price! Blind idiots spend $3,000-$5,000 on a Bose when they could have spent $3,000 (and this is the high end) for a system that sounds 100x better, will last longer, and have it custom installed in their home so all they have to do is press a button and it works. I actually got sent home early one day because I had a customer call me an idiot and tell me I had no clue what I was doing because he insisted the $5,000 Bose was better than any system in the store. I kind of went off on him lol, he didn't even want to hear that his precious Bose factory demoed their speakers using an Onkyo amp lol.
@ CJR - Since I have been here OCN has developed a serious case of fanboyism. Not that it wasn't always there but it has just progressed so much. People cannot bear the thought that these companies they worship are capable of any wrong doing at all. (Apple fanboys are just the most obvious lol). I love AMD, but until they make a product that is on the same level or better I wont be buying htme sadly. I am tempted to buy a FX-8350 as it will suit my needs because I am beginning to not want to give Intel any more money. I want raw power in my next rig and this is where I am having the trouble
. Why did it have to come to this? Why couldn't Intel gone about their competition in a legal way!!!!
