Defragged Corsair Force 120gb SSD Doh!

Thread Starter
I defragged my Corsair 120gb SSD shortly after purchasing it and now Windows 7 will not boot. (Have used HDD pro tem but wish to truly erase the SSD and reinstall Windows 7 on the SSD).

Is the best way to do this to use Parted Magic on a USB or will a windows secure erase do the same job?

My understanding is that by defragging I have caused the PC to write to previously unused cells on the SSD which is why the Windows file was corrupted.

Sorry to re-raise an issue that has been addressed in these forums before however there seems to be some discord as to whether Secure Erase or Parted Magic or HDDerase should be used.

Pro's and Cons would be useful. Thanks!

Defragging it, you have probably destroyed it. You should never defrag and SSD.

Defragging just reorganizes blocks to be more optimized. The issue with SSDs is that defraggers have no idea how SSD controllers optimized blocks so they can only temporarily hurt things. No data is lost during defragging... it is just moved around.

Absolute nonsense.

Defragging just wastes P/E cycles and temporarily may decreases performance due to the location of sectors. Defragging will not kill a SSD unless you do it continuously 24/7 for a few months.
Once again...

Defraging a SSD should not kill it. It can hurt the performances as the data on it is suposed to be fragmented but it should not destroy the unit.
