I do not need a super beast, I'm not totally interested in supreme powahhhh!!!
I want something functional, that will do what i want. while intel may slaughter amd, i can get a decent 8120 for 169.99 vs a 3570k for 229. you do the math there ;D

What is your justification for going AMD when Intel is better....painfully better.
You can get yourself a nice 3570K build that will destroy anything you throw at it for more or less the same price...

lol
$350 vs $170 lets not turn this into an Intel vs amd thread there is a place for that

Also, you realise that you're comparing a 3770k not a 3570k right?
anyways like i said i want something that will get the job done, intel just isn't a justifiable purchase to me.

Thanks Lapengu! biggrin.gif

I am upgrading from a pentium 4 single core 3.0ghz prescott based computer, and want to build a computer with the fx 8120. Want to use it for pretty much everything: Gaming, making youtube videos, audio editing, and anything else i can find to dabble in!
I know the whole discussion about intel being better, and that the new pentiums and i3's can outperform the FX series in gaming. This is going to be more than just a gaming machine though, and I want to go with AMD no matter what.
So my question for you guys is, can you help me find a good build that can handle the majority of games that are out today at 1080p for a price of $900? This is without a case and I would prefer to use newegg only please! Although if there are better deals on other sites I will consider them/
Aside from the obvious, I will need an OS and optical drive.
Also, microcenter is not an option.

please wait for the fx-8350

Generally for gaming, I'd say to drop an x4, but since you'll be creating youtube content, might I ask you to look into 1100T?
It works better in games than your average FX-8120, though I can't back this statement yet.

Plus since PD is right around the corner, all the more reason to go with a 1100T, or 960T thumb.gif

Edit:
From some benchmarks I've seen, the FX-8120 is faster than 1100T in encoding, though not as fast as intel, so its not a bad choice either. biggrin.gif

I'd look at getting a 960T, mine has been fantastic in a backup rig. Unlocked to 6 cores and running at 4.0 Ghz. I was able to get mine for $99 on Newegg at one time but they may be OOS now. I have the M5A99X and it has been fantastic as well. I would however recommend the Samsung 30nm RAM that can be had for 50 bucks (2x4 GB). They overclock like crazy.

I'd also look at a different PSU than the one lapengu suggested as better quality units can be had in that price range.

28$ over budget, those can easily be removed by choosing a non-modular PSU, as this one is 100% modular.
Edit: Without a case, this will have a total of $888 + $16 for the CDROM = $904

Intel i5-3570K $230
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 $135
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB DDR3 1600 $30
EVGA GTX 560Ti $225
WD Caviar Blue 500GB $65
Cooler Master HAF 912 $60
Asus 24X DVD Burner $17 (Free Shipping with Promo Code EMCNCNE35)
Corsair CX500 $60
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit - $99

Total = $920 not including Taxes/Shipping/Rebates. You could probably, of course find this stuff cheaper somewhere else, but you wanted newegg so here it is. Also for overclocking you can get a hyper 212+ for 30 bucks if you wanna add that.
