What is similar to the Seasonic X650 in terms of performance but is cheaper?

I have been having issues with my PC starting up and I think it was because of my PSU. I have been looking for good deals but it seems like prices went up or something on PSU's in general.

I have been looking through many JonnyGuru reviews but it is hard to compare one unit to another mostly because I don't understand most of what makes power supplies really good to begin with. I have mainly been looking at the Seasonic X650 to see if it drops down in price but as of right now I am looking for something more in the $80 range.

Basically I am looking for a really good quality 600+ watt PSU that is preferably full modular but if that isn't possible at the least I want some modular leads, and around the $80 range and has really good performance/reliability.

I have seen that but it doesn't really help me. I am talking about comparing units to each other and since I don't understand hardly anything about power supplies I don't know what to look for in all the load test results and different graphs that accompany power supply reviews.

I'm assuming you're going for some sort of SLI setup then?
If so, which card would you like to be prepared for?

I would recommend the SilverStone Strider Series 500W
It's fully modular and hits your price point on the dot.

You could even run 2 680's off of that PSU assuming you weren't running them on full load 18/7.

The PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III 600W is pretty cheap for a (not fully) modular design, but not as good as the SeaSonic.
SeaSonic's own M12II 620 should be a decent unit for the price, but not fully modular.
The SilverStone Strider Plus Series ST60F-P is fully modular and cheap, but slightly lower quality than the SeaSonic.

In all cases you're paying with lower efficiency. The X650 price on Newegg is hard to beat for a PSU of that type/quality.

Fully modular is somewhat rare because the manufacturers can safely assume that some cables will be used.

No, he could not. They spike way higher than 500 W even in games. They don't even have to spike, they have to be loaded like 75% each. I'd recommend 700 W for GTX 680 SLI.

You don't get what you don't pay for.

You can't expect to get SeaSonic X650 level performance, efficiency, quality, and features at $80. You have to give something up. Performance, efficiency, quality, features, wattage. Pick one or two.

Antec High Current Gamer 620 is partly modular for $10 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371059

I ran my system on a Antec Truepower New 650 for a while. It was perfectly stable too. My only problem with it was a hardwired EPS and ATX 12v CPU.. We only need one hardwired redface.gif

As good as the X 650 and modular, for around $80. I don't see anything right now, but every month or 2 the X 650 goes on a $40 off promo and can be had for $100

There are plenty of decent bronze unit's that fall in that price range though, many of which are the Seasonic S12II internally (HCG 620M, Tx650v2, XFX core edition 650, NZXT Hale 82 650, PC P&C Silencer MK III 600). Then there is the Hive series (same as the OCZ ZS series) made by Sirtec and OCZ ZT series (Great Wall) which is full modular.

I would get this.
NZXT HALE82 HALE82-650-M 650W SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116014

$80 with the promo code PSU0612, and then a 30 mail in rebate.

I figured that would be the case. Is the Seasonic X650 really that amazing compared to what else is out there at that price point? The modular cables is probably the second highest priority feature I am looking for aside from the performance being the biggest one.

My old PSU was a 600W OCZ GameXStream which I doubt is a very good quality unit, and considering it only lasted like 5 years probably backs up that fact. Right now I am using a temporary one which is probably even more abysmal... I think it is like a CoolMax or some brand 500w piece of junk I had laying around. It only has a 4-pin EPS connector and the worst part is that since my case has a bottom mounted PSU the cable didn't even reach so I just have the PSU sitting loose on top of my case with the side panel open.

I really wanted to get a high quality PSU this time around but I don't think I can budget $140 for the X650. I guess my requirements are just too high for what I have to spend.
