Will this rad be able to cool this loop effectly?

I did my introductions in the new members section so I will cut right to the chase.

I am building my first WC rig and I was wondering if the Black Ice® SR1 280 I currently have will be able to handle the loop I am building? Or should I add an additional Black Ice® SR1 120 and mount it in/on the back of my rig? Parts list is below and feel free to comment on it.

-Water Cooling Parts-
-XSPC Dual 5.25" Bay Reservoir for Single Laing DDC
-Swiftech MCP35X-BK™ 12 VDC Pump
-Black Ice® SR1 280
-Koolance Heat Sink for PMP-400 Pump
-Monsoon Free Center Compression Fittings, 1/2" x 3/4" Matte Black and Chrome (4X of each)
-PrimoFlex Pro LRT Clear Tubing -1/2in. ID X 3/4in. OD
-PrimoChill ICE Non-Conductive Liquid Cooling Fluid
-EK-Supreme HF High Flow - CPU Water Block (intel)
-Swiftech KOMODO-HD7970 Full Cover VGA Waterblock

-Rig Hardware-
-ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE
-Intel Core i5 2500K Quad Core Unlocked
-XFX Radeon HD 7970 OC Black Edition
-Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600
-Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5IN SATA3 2X
-Seasonic X760 PSU

Do you want something quieter then air with about the same temps? If so then the 280 will suffice for what you need, but if you want lower temps then I would throw on the extra rad space. A 2500K and a 7970 aren't wattage monsters like fermi but do see the great temps you can achieve from WC'ing I think a 280 will under preform.

And how should I integrate the second rad in the loop?

Dual 5.25" Bay Reservoir and Pump>>i5 2500K>>SR1 120>>KOMODO-HD7970>>SR1 280>>
Or
Dual 5.25" Bay Reservoir and Pump>>i5 2500K>>KOMODO-HD7970>>SR1 120>>SR1 280>>

Other suggestions also welcome

Loop order isnt gonna matter (res before pump). Shortest and cleanest route for tubing is the best bet, for flow and looks.

Personally, steer clear of primchill tubing (i have no experience with their coolant, so I can't speak on that regard" here is evidence why : http://www.overclock.net/t/1199158/plasticizer-problems-discussion-gallery

Also, have you considered using distilled with mayhems dye for color? they seem to be the way to go as far as dye is concerned.

For the 280MM rad, I don't truly think it will handle the heat of both the CPU and the GPU. Consider maybe externally mounting a 360 or getting creative thumb.gif

as far as 140MM fan radiators, I haven't seen that they perform TOO much better (i think mostly due to the lack of really solid performing 140MM fans), you can always go the 360/AP 15 route (i've got two 360's with AP15's and couldn't be happier cooling CPU, Chipset, Ram, and SLI GTX480s.)

EDIT: also consider a different block over EK, they had a bad run and left the customer to dry. Compression fittings aren't entirely necessary, personally I think they are a looks gimmick, and if you want to save some bones on fittings and reinvest that into better blocks/fans/radiators/pumps i would recommend going that route. Barbs are more than sufficient, get 1/2" barbs with 7/16" tubing and zip ties, that won't come off for days! thumb.gif

Hope this helps smile.gif

It does help but comes a little late (not your fault) I just pulled the trigger on the majority of my order. With the one exception which is the one final thing I have to ask before I post some pics of the build its self. I really don't want to go mounting rads out side of the case I don't have a lot of room on/around my desk for things hanging off the back/sides of my PC.....and I am not all that fond of how it looks.

Now my question is this I am going to mount a 120mm rad to help with the heat removal but I am stuck at which 120mm to go with as I could not find many reviews s on them I have narrowed it down to 4X and was hoping someone here could give me some recommendations the rads are:
-Magicool Pro Slim Profile
-XSPC EX120
-Swiftech MCR120 Quiet Power Series
-Swiftech MCR120 eXtreme Performance Series

I will be using Aerocool Shark Series 120mm Black Edition fan.

for 120mm radiators, look at the same family that gets reviews (i.e. XSPC RX 360, the RX 120 will be the same design just a third the size). That should help you narrow it down. I think magicool is bigger in Europe, but I know this forum is a fan of XSPC and Swiftech is a household name in cooling so I would say either XSPC or Swiftech. As for QP vs performance, note how much space you will have (including fan) and go with what will fit your setup best! thumb.gif

You said to bump if I have any more questions and I have a new one......dont know if this is the right place tho.

I have the new swifttech MCP35X which is rated at 18W the fan controller I want to use is the Scythe Kaze Master Flat which says a max of 12W per channel? will the controller just run the pump at a lower speed or will the pump simply blow the controller?
