Can I swap my U-Verse modem for an aftermarket modem?

As the titles says. We no longer have TV service, just internet. It is a 2Wire 3801HGV if that helps any!

The reason that I am asking is because it is a VDSL modem, and I am not too familiar with them.

Thanks!

As long as the settings are configured the same, I don't see why not?

Unless someone can give you a definitive answer, just call. Some ISPs allow 3rd party equipment, other's don't.

The ISP will tell you not to use different hardware, but it can be done.

Not really true for all ISPs. Some require you to use their hardware due to firmware changes, obviously with some hacking you can use different. Others won't even work unless it's provisioned on your account via MAC or Serial number.
