Which Computer Shoud I Buy? [RESOLVED]

Thread Starter
My INSPIRON zino HD's hard drive isn't functioning properly anymore, so instead of spending $300 on getting it fixed I've decided to buy a new/refurbished computer. I'm trying to get something that'll last and run video games well. My price range goes up to $290 dollars (including taxes).

I've been able to run E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, Zeno Clash, Section 8: Prejudice, Modern Warfare 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 2. Fallout 3: GOTY, Portal, Trine, Left 4 Dead and many other video games with ease. S8: Prejudice is the only one that required low settings though.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition is the only game that I've experienced constant lag with. I can't even play it, it's worst than Prototype.

Here's what I've managed to narrow my search down to:
  1. Intel Dual Core Home/Business PC - Loaded with Software! Upgraded Video Card!!
  2. BLACK HP PAVILION S5623W PC 3GB RAM 320GB HDD DVD/RW WIN7 - LISTED FOR CHARITY
  3. eMachines EL1358G Desktop PC Dual Core, 6GB, 1TB HD, Nvidia Graphics, Windows 7
  4. Compaq Presario CQ5700F PC (Black)
  5. HP Pavilion Slimline - s5710f PC (Black)
  6. Acer® AX1430-UD30P Desktop Computer With AMD E-450 Dual-Core Processor (the only one I can get offline for $270 right now)

Would you kindly list which ones you'd recommend over one another like so: 5, 3, 2, 6, 1, 4?

I'll probably be buying the computer tomorrow.

The Emachine is going to be your best bet since it has a dedicated graphics card.

Long story short, all of them will be bad. Here's an excellent budget build I put together for another poster earlier today:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
CPU: Pentium g620 ($64)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116399

Motherboard: MSI h67 ($60 AMIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130616&Tpk=h67a-g43

CPU Cooler: Stock Intel cooler.

RAM: 2x2gb 1333mhz ($23)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253

GPU: EVGA 460 ($97)
http://www.evga.com/products/prodlist.asp?switch=20 (bottom of page!)
+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812198022

Case: Bit Fenix Outlaw ($45)
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63255&vpn=BFC%2DOLW%2D100%2DKKN1%2DRP&manufacture=BitFenix&promoid=1223
Case is largely a matter of personal preference. This is a decent budget case that's not wacky looking. If you want shiny, wacky, with blue LEDs, look at the Zalman z9 or z11 cases.

PSU: Antec Neo Eco 450c ($35)
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=60491&vpn=NEO%2DECO450C&manufacture=Antec&promoid=1223

HDD: Seagate 500gb ($65)
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63468&vpn=ST500DM002&manufacture=Seagate&promoid=1015
Only like $20 to double the size to a 1TB, and another $25 or so to go to 2TB, depending on your space needs. Also, SSD not included, but might be nice if you have more $$ later.

DVD-burner ($10)
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=60731&vpn=GH22NS70&manufacture=LG%20Electronics%20USA&promoid=1223

Total: $399 ($20 higher at time of checkout because of rebate). No taxes because of buying online, shipping included in budget

not included: windows/peripherals, but you can use the ones you already have. If you can't user your current version of windows, there's not room in your budget for a legal copy of windows 7 (one of the only benefits of cheap pre-made computers = windows discount). You can, however, get windows 8 free & legal by downloading the trial version to a friend's computer, burning it to DVD, and installing as normal:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/download

I know this is over budget. But it will game for you like never before (and no games you can't play), and I can't honestly recommend any of the computers you linked above. This is as low as I can get using new components without cringing at lost performance for tiny savings. Considering the amount you seem to have spent on games, I promise you it will be worth it thumb.gif. You may be able to find some deals for used components/systems in the Marketplace on this website, if you have the tech knowledge to know what you're buying. If not, well, the list above works. But wait, you say, isn't building a computer hard? No, it is remarkably easy, as long as you can read. Here is a instructional video you can refer to. It makes computer building seem harder than it is, but is pretty handy for its visuals and pleasant voice:

edit: re: above. The e-machine's dedicated graphics card is years old and will have little to no real gaming power.

Thanks, but after hours more of camparisons and research, I've pretty much brought it down to either the Intel or the Acer. For certain reasons, I've decided that I won't spend more than $290. Thanks though. Thanks for the move, wasn't sure where to post this.

I was about to say upgrade your current system, but I googled it and its so tiny i don't think its worth it. You might think about buying a good case and parts from a yard sale and upgrading the internals. I really need to make a full scale guide on how to do that and post it here. I built a win7 250 gb hd 2core AMD system for $120 last week using a donor and 5 new parts.

Save money and build a PC from scratch yourself. The investment will be very worthwhile and will last you for years. Not to mention it will be vastly superior to any of the prebuilt computers you researched.

All of the ones you posted are either 2-3 generations old or Slimline with no upgrade future. I would get the Intel. At least when you need to upgrade again good parts will fit back in.

You need to check if it has a PCI-Express slot or AGP for graffics. If it PCI-Express then at least you can get a better GPU

Cheers, Alder

In that case the Intel system is much better than the other. Neither can play games much beyond Microsoft hearts/6 year old games, but it comes with a legal copy of Microsoft office & is $100 cheaper.
