Limit how much internet a computer can have

Hi!

Whenever my sister uses her laptop it makes the routers ping really unstable. It usually lies between 200-1000 when she uses the laptop. When she turns it off the ping remains at 21. Our internet is 8mbps/0.7mbps. I have tried other laptops and had no problems, but her laptop and her general use makes it impossible to play an online game without lagg. She doesn't download anything, just plays some flash/java games, chats and webcam etc. I just can't understand why the ping becomes so unstable when she uses her laptop.

What can I do to make the ping more stable? Any software I can install to limit how much ping she uses or something? Something I can buy to split the line between us or anything like that? Software that checks what she is doing that makes the ping unstable? She just had a few programs and chrome up and still ping was unstable. None of the other laptops in the house behaves this way nor any of the desktops. It also makes web pages load 5 times slower, so it is really annoying. She harldy uses any of the internet really, only the ping is affected. Like when I do speedtest, there is plenty of mbps left she uses maybe 3 of the 8mb, just a crazy ping. It is at 500 now: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2047646362.png

Hope someone can give me some tips and help, very much appriciated!!

What you want is QoS.

What router do you have?

Yea, this sounds like malicious software or another process on her system that is utilizing as munch bandwidth as possible.

ask your sister if she's been visiting some websites, like you know..., maybe she got some virus, then its maxing out internet speeds because it's sending info, stealing credit cards and some stuff, lol.

It is brand new, it was like this on her old laptop aswell. It probably would be better if we had better upload speed. But it is max our line can take. :/ Tests show 0.15mbps upload now on speedtest. She sits far away from the router and uses wireless. It was a dream when she went on holiday for a week. 20 ping all week, had so much fun on battlefield.. I miss it...

Ok that makes no sense whatsoever... Unless you transferred the virus when transferring her data to the new laptop or there's a program she uses that does it.

Like I said enable Qos.

New laptop might be trying to update, could be a virus; but if it's new hard to say.
