Limit how much internet a computer can have - Page 2

Perhaps what she is doing requires a lot of bandwidth. 8Mbps isn't very fast for download. Upload shouldn't be a problem. Watching a video on youtube in high quality could munch up what bandwidth you have without a problem.

Took a new speedtest with her computer off and much better: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2047772070.png
I will try connecting her laptop with an ethernet cable and see if that makes it better, and try moving her closer to the router.
Will also try that QoS thing but might need to do some more research to figure out ho to use it. If one of those work then I will either buy a 10meter ethernet cable for her and tell her that better be in at all times, or buy one of those wifi extender boxes so her wifi signal is always excellent.

It's normal. You best bet is to check and see if you can limit her bandwidth so that each individual request doesn't load at maximum speed. Think about it; if you're at 100% network usage for even a second while she loads up a page, your ping will be effected harshly.

8mbps isn't very much at all, especially for two people. I'm certain your network is getting saturated.

You need NetLimiter - http://www.netlimiter.com/

I have that problem with my laptop as well, just browsing in Firefox would completely slow down ever other computer (and this is on a 12down/1up line), while using wifi. Now I know for a fact there wasn't any viruses or any programs eating up bandwidth, but for whatever reason it would choke the connection tho the browsing/streaming speed on the laptop is just fine.

In your case, i would definitely check for viruses and what programs she has running. Open up resource monitor and check what processes are accessing the web/network.

ask her to lower her camera setting!enable ecn on all computer at home!also remember that you only have .7 upload so normally if a lot of people use computer in the house uploading anything will kill the whole web!so they might want to organise a system so everybody upload during sleep instead!or when you are gone to work or school ,this way when you come back everything is done!.7 isnt a lot so i would suggest to all computer user to not upload if they can!this should fix you guys web issue!also viewing web video should be limited to 720 and not while gaming!if you need music there are plenty of hd audio for free on the web that are very low foot print in bandwith!

basicly anything that is viewable should be limited ,(excluding gaming ,since mmo are on your hard drive,.last cloud game should be a nono tell them to download a game instead.yes i know it sound stupod but a bf3 player take about 90 kb /s a cloud gamer will probably take 750 kb/s or more!and probably 350 in upload!so tell cloud gamer(facebook game,g+game)those will be a nono!aion is f2p.

have fun

You can try enabling QoS but it regulates bandwidth and not ping. If your router has the option, you should be able to just hit enable without having to set anything up. If your sister doesnt have viruses, it could be an application that she likes to use. You can open up task manager and to go to networking to see if anything is using the network. I would try the ethernet cable idea though becuase it could just be a flaw in your wireless network.

TS here.

Bought a 15meter ethernet cable and hooked my sister's computer up. Before with wireless the ping would go from 20-1000, up and down every second. Now it stays at 20 all the time. biggrin.gif
All this time I thought it was our internet that just sucked, but now both of us can use the line no problem, ping always stays at 20. smile.gif
