[MacRumors] Bloomberg: iPad Mini Coming in October

Just hours after our latest summary of reports on the potential for an "iPad mini" coming later this year, Bloomberg weighs in with its own claims that Apple will be looking to introduce the device in October for availability before the end of the year.
Quote:
The new model will have a screen that's 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally, less than the current 9.7-inch version, said the people, who asked not to be identified because Apple hasn't made its plans public. The product, which Apple may announce by October, won't have the high-definition screen featured on the iPad that was released in March, one of the people said.
Source

I said this wasn't going to happen for quite a while. I didn't think there was going to be much of a market for a 7 inch device to make it worthwhile for Apple, but such a device is a much more suitable reader and at a lower price point will appeal to more people. I wonder if Apple will price this at $199 or $299, I'm thinking the latter.

Rumour; don't care. I'll wait for a credible source.

Off-topic: Rumours should be pulled from the live feed. They have no credibility and thus are not news worthy. It's just not credible. Should be moved to either off-topic or the Apple boards. This is just flame bait. Someone is going to say "oh, Apple said this, they won't go 7 inches", blah blah blah.

Bloomberg and WSJ are both credible. The latter reported back in February that Apple was testing such a device, and are now saying that they've been told by officials at the component suppliers that they've been told to prepare for mass production in September which sounds quite legitimate. It's likely Apple will try and stop the competition from gaining ground in the slate market so it makes sense for them to release one, particularly after the Nexus 7.

I don't think apple is going to do a 7" iPad just like I don't think they're going to do an actual TV.

Remember when Jobs said that..

Ah right. I remember that Jobs also said that 300 ppi was the minimum that someone can see pixels at. I guess he isn't that reliable. rolleyes.gif

The market has changed a lot since he said that, and more importantly Tim's in charge now.

Why do you keep saying that over and over again? He said ~"it turns out that 300 PPI's the limit of the human retina when viewed at an average viewing distance of 10-12 inches". Stop leaving the other half out of it.
