Forgot to plug the 4-pin connector! Did I mess the mobo up?

Hello, I think I've messed up my motherboard..
I was collecting some old parts to build a small backup rig and I made an old mistake..
Though I tested everything worked fine: an old intel socket 478 mobo, Pentium 4 cpu, and ddr ram.
I tested everything without the cpu cooler and pc turn on posted ok. So I turned it off again to put
the cooler on. But the 4 pin cpu power cable was in my way so I got it out to put the cooler on.
But I accidentally forgot to put the cable back on again after I was finished.. then I powered the pc
on, fans started turning but there was nothing on the screen.. and then I realized what I did!

Then I cut the power off.. put the 4 pin connector back on and tried to power the pc back on.
But of course it wouldn't.. Did I mess up my mobo? I think I tried everything.. removed everything
put them all back on after some time but it doesn't work. If I have the 4 pin power connector on
the mobo and try to power it on, the fans start but instantly the power goes off again.. so they stop
spinning.. If I remove that 4 pin again and power the pc on.. everything goes on, fans turning etc..,
but nothing on the screen..

So, is there any way that the mobo can be saved or it's totally messed up because of my foolishness..? frown.gif
Any help would be very appreciated!

I have done it a few times before, and nothing was damaged.

It should just not power up the CPU at all, so you will not get any image or display. Possibly not even a beep from the speaker.

Try removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes to get rid of any excess current in the system. The PC has to be unplugged though. Oh, and when you do that, cycle the power button a few times. In the rare case this has helped me to get a non-booting motherboard working again.

Wabbit pretty much said it all.
Whenever I have had problems with not booting, re-seating the RAM or CPU can occasionally fix it, even if it seems unrelated to the problem at hand.

Sorry.. didn't work.. all I get is these two states :

Case 1 : 4 pin connector is plugged in: The power led is lit. The power switch causes everything to get powered on for a moment, fans start turning and stop immediately. Nothing else happens.. nothing at the screen.

Case 2 : 4 pin connector is not plugged in: The power led is lit. The power switch causes everything to get power just like the pc is turned on.. Fans start spinning normally but there's nothing at the screen.

I'm somewhat stuck.. frown.gif
