[VRZ] 12GB 7990 may launch second half of July - Page 11

true saying its 12GB is kinda false advertisement, But 6GB per GPU is still impressive, what game on earth would even use up all 6GB? the gpu architecture will be obsolete by the time any games utilize that much memory.

12GB of VRAM? Hughly unlikely, 3GB is more than enough. Anyway, I can't wait to see how this card turns out to be, looks like ATI is desperate to reclaim the performance crown.

I mostly play Mmorpg's and tf2, With Mmorpg's like rift and wow hitting 2000-2200 during raids at 5760x1080, and me moving to 5or 6x(Havn't decided yet, 2 rows 3 monitors, or 5 monitors in a single lineup) 1440p, i'm sorry but 3GB won't cut it when you take shadows and super sampling into account, Now lets talk about a more intensive game like metro 2033 or BF3..

Now as for how i can affford 5 1440p monitors? Well i won't be buying dells, All of them will be catleaps, cheap, easy, affordable, brilliant.

sigh... misleading title again.......
Quote:
two Tahiti XT GPUs and 6GB GDDR5 memory (special edition 7990s could reach 12GB)

It says it's gonna have 6GB, but 12GB special editions MAY come out aswell which is nothing but a guess.

Sometimes I have the feeling even the OP himself doesn't read the article properly.

What's even more frightening is, that 99% of people here fell for the title too..

Either way, wrong title aside, 6GB VRAM would be pretty awesome, whether you run Eyefinity or not. Never worry about running out again/for a while =D

People need to learn about frame buffers, running a game at double the resolution doesn't double the VRAM use.

The 6Gb SKU is still only 3GB of usable memory which should be plenty, 3Gb GTX 580's showed that 3Gb is the sweet spot.

Nope.

Probably only 3GB usable, both Nvidia and AMD make their dual gpu cards sound like it has twice the usable memory.
No, this isn't the case for cards like this where both of the GPU's are on the same PCB. wink.gif

You're wrong, it doesn't matter that they're on the same PCB they still mirror the memory.

It'll still only be 3Gb usable for the 6Gb version...

What if they share the memory? It would need one massive bandwidth, but maybe the buffer shares the memory across both cores instead of mirroring half of the memory for each core.
