All the ram is litterally in use BUT since there are 2 gpus working on the same thing, in theory it supposed to run 2x as fast (it doesn't always do that)
Im sure if the video card manufacturers were to put it that way, there would be a lot more sli setups out there.
So if they put 12gb into it, then each gpu would be allocated with 6gb. Nothing wrong with a little headroom just in case you jump too high
