I find it funny people think you need 10k, To get 6 2560x1440 monitors, I mean the korean ones can simply be plugged into Dual DVI>DP adapters and then into a display port hub, and the display port hub into the 79x0 card

Exactly! Now granted anything with 6 monitors and 690/7990s won't be cheap by any stretch of the imagination but you don't have to be a millionaire to do this. You could probably build a rig with 6 monitors and a 7990 for sub 4500. You see rigs every day on OCN that cost more than that.

this would be the first dual GPU card that actually has enough ram to keep up the with cores.

i dont see why not.

Not Sli/Crossfire:

Sli/Crossfire

blah 1 gpu chip w/ 3gb allocated \
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\IMAGE
blah 2 gpu chip w/ 3gb allocated /

All the ram is litterally in use BUT since there are 2 gpus working on the same thing, in theory it supposed to run 2x as fast (it doesn't always do that)

Im sure if the video card manufacturers were to put it that way, there would be a lot more sli setups out there.

So if they put 12gb into it, then each gpu would be allocated with 6gb. Nothing wrong with a little headroom just in case you jump too high tongue.gif

thats a very good explination + repped, though sadly while in theory it runs 2x as fast, The best we've gotten iirc is 195% (Assuming each card is worth 100%, therefore a max is 200%)

the gtx560 is currently the most sli (nvidia) efficient card to date.

that is why nvidia based the 680 off of the 560.

thats also the reason why i am contemplating getting another 560 to sli (2gb variant)

or getting a 680

decisions decisions...

Both memory pools mirror each other, so each GPU core has the same data to work on. The data doesn't alternate between memory pools at an interval.

The 2x as fast is only regards to shader or any operations that are handled by the logic in the core itself as there's 2 of them doing the work instead of one.

exactly meaning, that it can work 2 times as fast, as I said previously.

Highly doubt it, but if it does. Mother of God

A 680 would smoke SLI 560s, especially an OC'd 680. I would get a 4GB 670 or 680 though. I made the mistake of buying 4 2GB 680s and I've been trying to sell them off ever since the 4GB 670/680 came out.
