actually, if retina type displays come onto the market from other companies (which they will) or even 4k monitors then using 3 x 4k monitors would be Ahem... 25894080 Pixels rendered per frame blinksmiley.gif

at least 30FPS.. means = 776822400 Pixels per second drool.gif

so yea.. given textures, larger tessellation models, multi monitor, larger resolutions etc... i can see this. Also what about cloud game streaming perhaps companies are clamouring to sell huge VRAM cards so that millions of players don't need scuppered textures?

and finally remember, these boutique cards can come with bells and whistles they still get sold to the rich / e-peen crowd. Further more even scientific / military institutions might use huge VRAM for modelling 360 degree simulators and insane resolution too, that's a few sales right there.

its not all about crysis 2 and skyrim @ 1080p tongue.gif

*Quotes entire thread*

6GB VRAM IS USELES1!!!1!!

Y'all do realise this card will be aimed at those running 7680x1440 or 7680x3200 Right? You think 3GB Vram is going to cover that kind of frame buffer? Bahahahahaha thats what 12 times the size of 5760x1080 and i was getting on average 2000 to 2400 Vram used..

Niche card for niche market.

I will sell off my two 7970s with their water blocks, and have Two of these with EVEN BIGGER WATER BLAWKS and i will place thine holy Crossfire bridge onto them and press the all mighty power button and watch the lights dim as my monstrosity comes to life..

can you imagine (3)4k screens in eyefinity?!

DROOL WORTHY!

Until then, they will need to clock the pants off of this. Hopefully it also comes with the release of 6gb 7970/50's at the same time.

To think I'm playing @ a measly 1080p.

You are all assuming that a 7970 or a few of them have enough power to even push that many pixels for a 4k resolution.

How do you know 4 7970's aren't limited by gpu power? You don't.

You say vram will hold back the 7970 at a crazy resolution, and I say the gpu power will hold it back. No one has any clue which is right.

I'm surprised there are not any reviews of quad fire 7970's with 5 monitors that could lend any insight to whether or not 4 7970's even have enough power for that type of resolution with any sort of maxed out settings.

Drool.

Here's to hoping 6gb vRAM becoming more prevalent on high end GPUs in the future. Just in time for those 4K monitors biggrin.gif

I am fairly sure we can push that kind of resolution, But the question is what happens when you turn AA on? or start upping the detail settings, Are you still going to have the grunt? are you going to have the Vram? I would suggest looking into reviews of 7680x1440/1600

I don't know why anyone would suggest the VRAM reason is for 4k resolution, 4k resolution isn't available for PCs at this time so suggesting that is ludicrous. It is for 6 screen eyefinity. Clearly this thread is headed to certain posters posting "AMD sucks" over and over rolleyes.gifrolleyes.gifrolleyes.gif but if they do make a 12gb version that is why. 6gb would be a prerequisite for the type of surround resolutions on 6 screens, but per the article the main version would have 3x2 gb VRAM.

Now by all means continue with the "AMD sucks" nonsense.

All the people that think 12gb is too much, should try to play crysis 5 on a 5K resolution tv. That will kill all vram biggrin.gif

HAHA! I bet not even two overclocked 6990's can push gaming on battlefield 3 in 6 of these monitors in a eyefinity resolution smile.gif at max settings

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=224-9949&~ck=baynoteSearch&baynote_bnrank=2&baynote_irrank=0

You might be able to play medium settings at 40 fps, with two 6990's overclocked.

by the way, I doubt there are that many benchmarks of gaming across 6 of those lol....

They cost around 7grand for that setup!

Of course this would be a TRUE enthusiast setup right here smile.gif

paied with the latest intel 6 core processor OVERCLOCKED and two 6990's/690's/7990's OVERCLOCKED

you are looking at like... a near 10grand computer setup smile.gif

Doubt there's that many people in the world with a 10grand setup, doing benchmarks and updates on the highest monitor resolutions across eyefinity/surround with the latest graphics card overclocked, and cpu's overclocked, in 3dmark ect....gaming benchmarks ect...
