max. safe voltage for my Oced HD7950 ?

Thread Starter
Hi guys biggrin.gif . I'm new here in these forum smile.gif. I already did my presentation in the corresponding section tongue.gif.
Well, i was wondering what is the highest safe Oc for my Gigabyte HD7950 Oc. The thing is that I've found what are my Oc limits, voltage and frequency. Actually my chip is not very good, it requires higher voltage than others but one thing I like is that my Gpu is very cold even with high overclocks. I've reached 1100mhz core with 1.218V and i think is stable. Temps never go above 60° with fan set on "auto" ( usually between 43-45%). And about two days ago i tried going beyond 1100mhz and reached 1170mhz core with 1.25V. Full load temps are fine, always between 60-62° also with fan set on auto.
Do you think my OC is safe for 24/7 ? Considering i have very low temps and that it's stable. Is my 1170mhz core 1.25V safe ? or should i left my Oc at 1100mhz core 1.218V ? Temps are not a problem, the only thing ( I can even get lower temps if i set the fan speed to manual) i'm afraid of are the voltages. Please i'll appreciate your help smile.gif.
My Gigabyte HD7950 Oc stock voltage is 1093mv ph34r2.gif

I dont see any issue running it at 1.25v if the temps are under control. The increased voltage will shorten the lifespan but you will probably replace the card before you run into that.

Yeah if the card is stable in games and the temps are good, thats fine. You have a 3 yr warranty. so don't worry. thumb.gif

Okay thanks guys smile.gif. Well i think I'm gonna left my Oc at 1100mhz core with 1.218V for now... smile.gif. Just to don't be too close to the "safe voltage limits". Also the difference between 1100 and 1170mhz core is not very noticeable in gaming. Thanks again:).

You can feed it 1.3v all day long as long as you have equivalent cooling. And regarding the actual voltage, under normal (all non-lethal overclocking) conditions, you will never actually be able to feed the card 1.3v anyways due to asic/vdroop and when you do trip the safety (tdp/overload) on the card, it will invoke OVP/OCP and black screen the card. Simple reboots returns the card to normal.

Okay thanks man , good advice:). In my case my videocard has a freaking good cooler with low temps. Now i've decided to leave the core clock at 1170mhz 1.25V and maybe in the future or for benchmarks I'll try to find my max core clock with 1.28-1.3V. Hopefully will go past 1200 mhz core smile.gif. for now I'm very happy with 1170mhz 1.25V and full load temps of about 62°. Hope my Hd7950 will last for the next 2 years x), I'm planning to grab another one and CF by the end of this year smile.gif.

Run hwinfo64 or gpuz to read the real voltage with vdroop. You will then know actual voltage. Then you will facepalm when you realize that's ALL the voltage you get to play with. For reals? Yea, it's hardly enough. redface.gif

Agreed smile.gif

Just like guru3d always says that max voltage in MSI afterburner or your max card voltage is safe for daily overclocking as long as temperature is safe (I think under 70c is most safer although 71 - 74c also safe).

Okay thanks guys smile.gif. I'm running my HD7950 comfortably at 1170/1375 with 1.25V. Maybe I'll try to pass the 1200mhz core barrier just for benching I guess smile.gif.
Now is winter here in Peru and with my 1170mhz core 1.25V my highest temp is 64° with fan on auto (between 39-45%) thumb.gif.
