XPS6330i, QX9650, 8GB RAM, 2 x nvidia 460 gt - SLI, SSD boot drive. System was originally delivered with Q6600 replaced with QX9650.

I'm running 4 x 2GB Corsair XMS2 memory sticks (800mhz, 5-5-5-18). BIOS shows the correct timing in AUTO mode. When I switch from AUTO to UNLINKED the same values appear which I expect and expect it should work just fine. I'm not really changing any of the memory timings. I leave memory set to OPTIMAL as well. Another thing I noticed is the BIOS has a memory test but it always fails. I wish I would have run this when I first got the memory but that was quite a while ago. Yet for the most part, this machine run just fine. So I'm wondering if this is a false positive.

The system sort of boots but the login screen is in something like 600 x 400 versus 1920 x 1080. And you cannot login nor use the shutdown buttons to shut it down. The only thing changed is AUTO to UNLINKED. I'm also running a QX9650 with a 11x multiplier (something like 3.7GHZ).

I was hoping to resolve some gaming (BF3) stability issues by separating the overclocking of the CPU from the RAM settings. It seems to work fine setting it back to AUTO but then I'm left with stability issues. I've just recently downloaded Prime95, CoreTemp, 3dmark11 so I guess I should DEFAULT the BIOS and start some burn in tests to check stabiltiy with out of the box settings.

Wondering if anyone else has come across this kind of issue. BIOS and drivers are the latest too.
