Just wait a few more days until a more reputable seller has it for a lower price

From what my suppliers are telling me, the retail boxed units are going to be very hard to get in Q4. There will be a few OEM chips floating around, but my guess is retail ones will be pretty severely constrained.

With that in mind, pre-order with caution. We got burned with the Core 2 Duo pre-orders due to limited supply. If you pre-order now, you have the advantage of being first in line when/if the company you order from gets them in stock. However, it's no sure thing that they'll get them.

Pricing could change too... I *highly* doubt anyone will be able to buy these for anywhere under $1000 for a while. If other launches are any indication, pricing will be pretty inflated for a while, so with that in mind, the price on that site you linked is fairly reasonable, or at least in line with what the market will likely bear.

With your *insider* information... any idea about the impact on prices on the Core 2 Duo? My expectation is that for the E series, nothing will change. Will the X6800 drop in price or will it disappear?

I haven't heard much. Honestly, I doubt the E6300-E6700 will move much. In fact, the X6800 may not move much either, since it's still a higher clock than the quad core... but we'll see. It's my understanding that Core 2 Duo sales are a bit lean at the moment (and my sales trend tends to confirm this, as well as the rebates being offered by many of the distributors) but since Intel still has AMD severely in check, there's no real incentive for them to lower prices yet.

It's possible though - obviously things could change. I just wouldn't bet the farm on it

That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming.

Any idea when the QX6700 will actually be 'in store'? (and probably 'out of stock' the same day )
