New to OC

Thread Starter
Guys,

Overclocking is new to me. My CPU killer program is Microsoft Flight Simulater FSX. This program is CPU intensive and needs OC'ing to get decent frame rates even with a new system.

I found a video on OC'ing this MOBO, made the changes, rebooted and kicked off FSX. The only change was that everything happened at twice the speed as normal. Frame rates stayed the same but the game was unplayable.

So, what should the settings be to conservatively OC this MOBO? I don't have any cooling but will do whatever it takes to get good performance with this program.

I downloaded AMD Overdrive which looks like it will be a straight forward way to do this.

So, what settings should I use to bump up the performance a little?

Thanks!!

It would be of great help if you'd list your system in your sig rig like mine. That way those trying to help you know what you're working with.

OCing should always be done through the bios, never with a utility like AMD Over Drive. Utilities tend to over volt and are never optimized OC's.

Here's a real good guide I like to recommend, tons of info plus gives you a path to follow (order in which to OC). http://www.overclock.net/t/525113/phenom-ii-overclocking-guide

There is nothing wrong with using AMD Overdrive.

I use it all the time to test things, then I program the stable settings into the BIOS.

Be sure to print out the pdf in my signature as a reference. It's much more thorough than the guide here on OCN.
