~$500 AMD Build - Review my parts - Page 4

If he adds that it will come out to 600 bucks.

Superior, definitely.

worth the extra 200+ dollars compared to a APU build, no way.

If I was gonna spend 600 dollars on a rig I would go to the 1155 platform its way superior, along with a good upgrade path.

Me and my girlfriend built her a dual graphics Llano build, and it's great and all, plays everything fine, but it's a dead socket and a dead weight to your wallet. The only upgradability you have is to buy a great graphics card that you're inevitably going to bottleneck, and defeats the purpose of buying an APU in the first place.

It wasn't actually a blanket statement. It was in response to my specific question about a Phenom II x6 1045 versus an fx-6100 if both are exactly the same price (from the microcenter combo deal).

Speaking of not reading earlier posts, I don't come in and offer inferior builds when a better one has been posted. I don't really see why people are posting without reviewing earlier builds. I'm speaking specifically of barkinos recommending a Phenom II x4 build that's more expensive than the Phenom II x6 build I suggested.

Keep in mind it is a 3.3Ghz 1100T, not a 2.7Ghz 1045T.

Maybe I'm too anal, but he should have said 1045T>FX-6100 in synthetic benchmarks. Real world performance is near identical, and if his friend ever decides to try overclocking the FX-6100 is the obvious choice.

However, the M5A97 is barely a fit motherboard for either the 1045T or FX-6100.

barkinos98 I like you build but it needs to include a CPU heatsink and ideally should include a diff. board with a VRM heatsink (Unless you ask Newegg for a rev 1.3 or GIGABYTE for a heatsink, they once sent a 970A-D3 rev 1.0-1.2 owner one) and should ideally not include the CX-600 V2 since at $70 even with the rebate card it's quite a rip off.

Split the retailers as so (assuming OP is not near Microcenter - though please tell us if you can make it there! They have great CPU/mobo deals) and $500 can be really flexible:

Phenom II x4 955 - $92 shipped with code RWBJULY [Superbiiz]

ASRock 970 Extreme3 + 2x4GB Team Vulcan RAM - $118 shipped [Newegg]

CM Hyper 212 Plus - $23 shipped [NCIX]

Antec One case - $40 shipped [NCIX]

Antec NEO ECO 450C - $40 shipped [NCIX]
WD Caviar Blue 500GB 7200RPM HDD (2 year warranty) - $65 shipped
XFX Radeon HD 7770 - $120 shipped, $15 rebate [NCIX]

$498 shipped, $15 rebate

I think you'll like this as the build with all 120MM fans will be very quite and with the 7770 use very low power, efficiently (Neo ECO 450C is great), while providing the best possible balanced performance at $500.  Quality components including heatsinked VRMs and a great PSU will keep everything running for long.  I can vouch for this PSU/case combo, being run on my dad's new 4th workstation PC - esp. at $80 both.

by putting a 6850 card you will turn off the gpu side of the apu and it defets the pourpus of a budget friendly apu build by adding a gpu that is 1/3rd of the budget

Hmm. Well, good information. Gotta admit, I merely assumed the Asus would be a decent mobo. Which of the CPU/mobo combos from microcenter would you recommend for $170 or less (gotta stay in budget)? Choosing from those since the microcenter deals seem necessary for putting together a good overall system for the OP.

Any of them paired with the Gigabyte 970. The Gigabyte 970 has an 8 phase VRM design which is amazing for the motherboard price. It's my daily driver too.

Stock, the 1045t is the best package for single and multi-threaded.
Mild/high overclock, the FX-6100 is the best package for single and multi-threaded.
