lonnie5000, many opties get to 3ghz+ with adequate cooling..

plus the 4200 has only 2x512mb of cache, all opterons have 2x1mb of cache.

Yep, X2 4200 has only 512kb L2 cache per core but it doesn't take away the sort of power it brings at 3GHz. Yikes! That must pack a lot of punch in it! I could only go so far as 2.6GHz.

I had the same trouble with my X2 4400, the bastard wouldn't go any higher than 2.7 Ghz stable and that was with some crazy volts.

I saw some guy on here who got 3 ghz out of his 4200 X2 though......which is remarkable

Have you increased the voltages?

Download ATI Tool 25b16pre5 & the latest ATI Tray Tool.

In the above mentioned ATI Tool you can adjust the Volts to GPU, Memory, etc. Increase the volts to the GPU a little then raise you overclock 10-15mhz, then scan for artifacts for 10 minutes..........repeat the process but keep an eye on temps

Also, if you follow my advice, when you install ATI Tray Tools disable the overclocking option when installing it
