Antivirus is pointeless IMO. Well, at least for me, I've installed several AV programs and so far I've scanned my whole PC 5-7 times at least and every single time no virus are found.....

.......Why? Because I don't have a file sharing program installed, I don't open e-mails from anyone and......that's about it, I've only had 3 viruses in my whole computing life, ever. So I'm safe I guess and it's okay if AVG doesn't provide the free version anymore.

BRB, I'm going to remove the free version right now......

just cos you hardly ever et virus' doesnt mean they are pointless, if you work with computers alot, you are gonna get the odd corrupt file f***ing stuff up. And just browsing the net it is possible to get viruses. The only thing is its alot more spyware/adware based these days

and for the last time only the 7.1 version is being discontinued lol

I work with computer all day long son.

A corrupt file can be caused by a program not installing properly or running several program in the back-ground while installing a particular software at the time.

Just browing the net? I browse daily, yet I haven't had a virus in years, sure spyware does remove "cookies" but anyone can do that manually, no need to install a program that can do that, then again, ZoneAlarmPro gets rid of the spyware and it does it automatically.
Opening ANY e-mails is a major source of getting infected with a Virus, file sharing programs like Kaaza, media monkey, limewire are the major source of viruses and spyware, guess what? I don't use any of that crap and ZERO viruses for me.

Yes, the 7.1 versio, which is FREE is the one being discontinued which is what the thread is stating and the one that everyone here pretty much uses, the 7.5v is the one where you have to buy, no one wants to pay........now what part of that you didn't understand?

Ok, you say in your first post Nasgul that you were removing the free version of AVG, implying you had it, then you say you have ZA pro, yet you say you surf and get no viruses so antivirus is unimportant? Well of course you don't get viruses, you have an active firewall with active spyware protection and AVG with active virus protection. Those active components actually do something, thats why you don't have viruses. That's like wearing a parka in Alaska and saying "I'm not cold out here, wearing a parka is pointless".
