[Work Log] Classic Storm Sniper - Page 2

More work last night. Painted all parts "Championship White". For the most part, everything turned out decent. Had a couple of paint runs due to rushing things a bit. However, I still need to figure out how to adjust the guns to spray less paint as I keep running out of paint by the end of the 2nd/3rd coat. Definitely need to fix this issue before spraying on clear coat.

Sorry for the crappy phone photos. Also, I just realized that it might have been better if I would have turned my camera flash on...biggrin.gif I didn't think about it when I took the pictures last night before going to bed. My kids, an infant and a toddler, are not big fans of the camera flash when I snap photos of them on my phone, so it's normally on OFF and not AUTO. The yellowish color is due to the lighting in the garage.

Decided to go ahead and paint the clear coat last night. For the first time last night, weather became a factor. There was a nice breeze outside and dust and dirt was flying into the garage and onto the layers of clear coat. Tried my best to remove as much of the dirt and particles as I could. Even used tack rags between coats, but there were some that have already dried with the clear and nothing I could do to remove it.

Note to self: it's better to paint hanging the parts on a line to help prevent the dust and particles landing on the parts. Also, make sure it's not windy when you start painting. biggrin.gif

Update:

So, I went to buff and polish the clear coat over the weekend and looks like the clear coat is more dull now than when I started. I only buffed and polished the back side panel to test. I read in several places that if you don't spray clear coat on properly, then it will come out dull and not have that showroom finish. mad.gif

So, I said just forget it and go to put the panels back together without buffing or polishing them. Note to self: Nothing is worse than riveting parts back together before realizing you missed a step and have to undo everything to add back in that one piece.

From a distance, the color looks really good, but when you get up close, it's terrible. You can see all the imperfections and places where I didn't do a good job.

Note to self if there is ever another time: Do a better job with primer and if you run out of primer or base coat, go out and buy some more. Even if you only need another ounce of paint. thumb.gif

Finally finished installing my water cooling into the case Tuesday night.

Leak-Tested overnight.

Pump still sounded loud. Filled up the reservoir and things seem much better.

Final look before heading off to QuakeCon 2012
