Thanks for all the kind words of support.

I'll see if I can post anything on the progress of the build.

Well I'm back to modding and I have a temp job that will carry me over and thanks to my sister and parents I still have a roof above my head.

Also my 6950 2GB GPU died on me. :(

Kazenagi got the pumps from me, I ship internationally pumps into Canada often. The pink foam is my trademark to keep the static charge away from the pumps during delivery.
Bummer about jobs being lost. It seems to be happening more frequently lately. Even the blogs and forums are getting less traffic due to tight funds.
How bad is the vid card? Can it be RMAed? If not, do a search on "oven baked video card", it's worked for me once.

No the pumps were fine, it was the plan that failed because I tried the dual DDC with the watercool dual top and a micro res and it worked fine, it was the XSPC bay/res that gave me problems.

Yeah, it's fortunate that even if you're over the age for 20 you can still get hired flipping burgers just to survive.

As for the GPU, it's a goner, one of the VRMs pop-ed after trying to bake the card. :/ Got a replacement 7850 reference card for $180CND and I'm just waiting for EK to release their 7850 reference blocks.

Not really a massive update but an update non-the-less.

Don't think that this mod-log is dead yet.

So after a long life challenge, one must rise up to beat it and thus with this post I'm happy to report that I have somehow beaten the challenge set forth to me by life.

Everyone who followed this thread knows that my GPU died and my old trusty 5750 with the "RED MOD" was the interim GPU but now...Melchior has some new friends to play with.

A new Samsung 830 128GB SSD and a PowerColor Radeon HD 7850 Reference CARD!!!! Both of these new toys were installed a few weeks ago and so far...they're working well...the 7850 is a bit on the high side maxing out at 65*C on SC2 with all graphical options maxed to EXTREME!!!

On the watercooling side... DazMode has delivered yet again!!!

15x XSPC 7/16" 5/8" Low Profile Compression fittings as well as 10ft. of Orange tubing and an RX120!!! Also I'm doing a bit of modding on the EK compression fittings and painting 2 of these orange as well.

Also since I'm going full water on everything on my rig...I don't need the intake/exhaust panels of the side panel of the CM 690...so...here's the new simple design I cooked up...I thrashed the old design because it was too "flashy" and I didn't want that...I'm a minimalist so yeah...

The entire cut-out will be covered with a large piece of acrylic painted frost with LEDs embedded with aluminum panels on the top.

For now here ends the updates...will get working on the front panel and show some progress pics on how I secured them and also a cable cover.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how I will mount my SSD...not sure if I'll just use velcro or use the bottom screws for it. Also I might be purchasing 2 more SSDs and replacing my trusty Samsung F4 1TB and putting it to my server as a back-up drive.

Might end up with 3 SSDs on my rig...128GB for OS / 128GB for DATA / 128 GB for RAW files for client projects.

Well I eventually caught up with my modding these past few weeks! So lets get started!

It's been cold here in Toronto for the past few weeks so I didn't want to ruin the paint job on my new XSPC EX120 but I had no choice as this was the only remaining paint mod aside from the external stuff I had.

So this is how it started...

And the end result...

I also had my XSPC low profile compression fittings and EK-FC7850 full cover block installed...everything right now is running fine.

And now for the side panel...I was able to print out some paper templates for me to trace on a blank aluminum sheet but due to the cold weather this was the only prep work I was able to finish.

So confined to my room I proceeded with one of the most difficult mods I have had to do to date...swapping LEDs on my Scythe KazeQ-12 fan controller...I initially contacted Scythe on what voltages the LEDs ran at, but there was no reply so...I pulled out my trusty multi-meter and started testing...it was time to dismantle the fan controller...

The LEDs on the Scythe KazeQ-12 were running from 2.2v (min fan speed) to 2.3v (max fan speed) and luckily I had ordered some 1206 orange LEDs from ebay...

So after an hour of removing the old LEDs...I was able to get the upper part of the controller replaced!!

There were some hiccups during the replacement of the LEDs as the original Scythe LEDs were so small and when it was mixed with the orange LEDs there was something funky going on...I didn't bother to troubleshoot it as I was going to replace all the LEDs anyway...

So far so good and after another few minutes of removing the old LEDs...the problem I was experiencing with the different LEDs disappeared!

So time to install it temporarily on to the case!

I had them run everything on full and only 4 slots were filled with fans for about 24 hours...and there was no problem...no fumes no smoke coming out of the controller during the burn-in of the LEDs. So everything is working fine for a few weeks now and so far no problems even when connecting some CM-R4s on it!

So there you have it, a small but major update on the theme.

It'll be a long time again before I post any updates as the mods I need to finish need to be done outside and if weather permits I'll try to finish them before winter does set in Toronto.
