I finally got my Corsair H80. Few questions

Hey everyone.

I am loving this thing a lot. I upgraded from a Zalman CNPS11x and the difference is great. My CPU. i5 3570k would hit high 80s on 3Dmark11, 90 degrees in BF3, now my CPU is 67 degrees in 3Dmark11. I will test it in Battlefield 3 and see how it measures.

I have few questions

1-) My setup has

230mm fan in the front

140mm fan on the bottom

2 140mm fans on the top

and the H80 on the rear

2 top fans are exhaust fans and the bottom and front fans are intake fans... I setup my H80 fans as intake as well, Any suggestions? Did i do the right thing?

2-) I set my Corsair H80 on the LOW setting via pushing the button on the cooler. Even on low settings i get 67 degrees which is good enough for me. When i take it to Medium and High, the sound is a lot for my ears. Is this only related to the fans? Should i get some silent high CFM fans in the future? Will there be a noticable difference?

Thank you.

Included fans are horrible, you might want different ones.

Included fans are not that crap, TBH. As long as one has it in push/pull configuration the H80 is a beast.

When two fans are mounted to the ends of the radiator, both facing the same direction (with same spec) and allows increased airflow through the rad. ex.
Cool Air--->Fan--->/Radiator/--->Fan--->Warm Air
Push pull configuration is where air is pushed and pulled through the radiator. Example is let's say the radiator is mounted on the top of your case. Fans are then mounted to the radiator inside the case with the airflow pointed up "PUSH". Then fans are mounted to the other side of the radiator with the airflow in the same direction "PULL". Basically it's fans mounted on the top and bottom of the radiator that both use the same air flow direction. The fans in the example that are mounted in the case are forcing air through the radiator in a upwards direction or pushing. Fans mounted on the other side are helping the air flow by pulling the air through the radiator, thus increasing cooling potential. smile.gif

Thank you for the explanations guys.

So than my system is already push and pull right?

My rear and front fan in the H80 are both facing the same direction and they are used like intake fans. Am i in the right track?

If i get different fans, which one would you suggest me by the way? I am really looking for a fan that will run quieter.

One last question, when I turn on the PC my fans are very loud and I guess they work at 100% and than they fall back down. Is this normal?

Might just be not very good fans. I like cooler master silent fans still move alot of air and are very quiet. Or nzxt fans work good as well and are quite. If your get nzxt fans you can also get a 5.25" bay fan controller. This way your can control the fans speed. Unfortunately the cooler master fans are known to not work well with the nzxt fan controller.

For replacement fans I put http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553001 on both my H80 on the CPU and my antec 620 on the GPU and they are way more quiet was definitely worth it to me.

and the fans spinning 100% on boot is normal mine did it as well.

Those look good to me.

Also make sure you use the correct screws for mounting the fans. You can damage the radiator if you use the wrong screws. Try to get the exact same screws that come with the Kit if it doesn't come with extra ones for mounting an additional fan.
