On the other hand, i currently have 125 watts rms running to each side of my components up front tongue.gif

A very basic rule of thumb i've heard that seems to work pretty well is to run your sub wattage at 1.5 times your combined front speaker wattage

Lots of this. I can't stand the way most people set their car audio system's up. No balance what so ever. Not to mention what the vibrations can do to a car(especially older cars). Bug's me when the bass hit's and the car rattle's, lower's the quality of the music and listening experience:(

Mind you I'm not saying using a large sub in car audio is bad, only that most of the time it is poorly implemented in a sorry attempt for "street cred".

Another problem I have found with car's (all size's) is the "pressure effect" having many large high powered sub's can have on the occupants.

To go back and answer your questions OP:

If your two subs are different, then yes you would be better off running just one of them (whichever one is the more powerful one), and picking a new amplifier based off that. I fail to understand why you can't put them up for sale on CL though. You could easily fetch enough out of two Type S 12's to buy one Type R 12. Spend a few extra bucks for material, and build yourself a 2.0-2.5 cuft box tuned at 32Hz. Pair it up with the Audiopipe AP10001-15001D, or the Brutus 1200-1600w. You'd be set, and you really wouldn't be out much money.

But yes, since your subs appear to be so different, you probably should just run the beefier one of the two. You could potentially push too much power to one over the other one, or you could end up with a really odd load at the amp.

Even listening to bass heavy music gets tiring after a while with an overpowering bass tunned system. But you can completely forget about enjoy any other genre of music.

I personally like all kinds of music so good overall balance is important to me

I'll try to pop them off tonight and see. they are both dvc.. just not sure if both are 4ohm or not. Just can't sell em. tongue.gif
Does Kicker still make good subs? If I buy new (this next paycheck will tell me if i can) I'd like to keep it as close (or under) $200. I still want to get an SSD before summer is up.

with only 100 watts I can well imagine.

But yeah you can find some deals around 200. a while back I got a 12 infinity kappa perfect 12 in a box for $100 and then a 450.2 Diamond D6 amp for $139 (that was new)

For $200 or so you can get a Brutus 1200-1600w amp and a 4ga wiring kit.

From there, I'd sell what you already have (the whole setup) and get a single sub in a good ported box. Easily doable. I see no reason why you can't sell what you've got. If they're mis matched subs, you'd be best off to get rid of them honestly.

I was wrong. I remembered something being strange when I calculated rated impedance... one is single voice coil:
SWS-1241 (svc 4ohm)
SWS-1243D (dvc 4ohm)

The dvc one is noticibly louder than the other and both at the same time. I think what I'll do is make a ported box for it (dvc) and upgrade to a better fitting amp (possibly) and next summer or sometime in between get a new sub. How does that sound? I need to replace my front speakers (and back, but i already have them) which is something I haven't really been thinking about.

well those are only 200 watt rms subs, I'd get a decent ported box and hook up the amp to the SVC one and see how it does with just your 100 watt amp. you might be pleasantly surprised
