Z-axis problem on ADNS 9800?

I'm interested in getting a Sentinel Advance II till I saw this:
Quote:
This new CM Storm mouse is one of the first to feature the new Avago ADNS-9800 sensor, which is the first to have a maximum resolution of 8200 DPI, which is 2600 DPI more than its predecessor the ADNS-9500. The old 9500-series sensor performs great on most surfaces and exhibited a very short lift-off-distance and was highly tweakable. The 9500-sensor had only one downfall and that was its slightly positive acceleration when moved rapidly. The 9800 inherits these problem and add one of its own, namely Z-axis tracking in the Sentinel Advance II implementation. The Z-axis tracking is basically when you lift the mouse the pointer will move. Here it seems that the pointer continues in the same general direction as the mouse was traveling before the lift approximately half a second after it has been lifted. The issue is small due to the extremely short lift-off-distance of the sensor, but at the same time augmented by its very high DPI rating and therefore maximum full control sensitivity.

Could anyone clarify if there's really a Z-axis problem on ADNS-9800 sensors? Skylit? biggrin.gif

Well for starters, this specific sensor only tracks on an X and Y Axis'. Only the Philips Twin Eye Doppler sensors are capable of tracking on Z along with X and Y.

The issue described is one that was a result of early ROM implementation (initial release) and has been fixed since around April. So I wouldn't exactly call it "Z-Axis", but an early flaw that hasn't been fixed in the SEII. (Hopefully the EE is designed for flash over USB)

PS: Looks pretty cheap even compared to some of their other mice from different OEMs. =X

How much Z axis issue is fixed? Can you explain plz? And is it fixed in Razer mice too such as twin sensors in Imperator or Mamba?

I wondered how that site is reliable in his info anyways......

The 9800 has no Z axis issue as it doesn't track on a Z-axis. The above issue is just a flaw of the initial A9800 srom.

At least some review that noticed that bug.

Imho the fix doesn't give you the same "feeling" but that could also be placebo.
