R.A.T 5 versus G500

Hi guys, I will build my first gaming pc in 3 weeks and the last thing I have to do is to choose a mouse smile.gif
I will be playing Guild Wars 2 for the most part, and maybe BF3 and Crysis 2, NBA 2K13... various games
I hesitate between these two gaming mouses :
- The G500 from logitech, everybody said me that it is a really good one, I can have it for 45€ wink.gif
- The R.A.T 5 from Saitek, I'm a huge fan of the look and the ergonomics thumb.gif I found it for 55€
I don't want a mouse with 45 buttons like the G600 or the razer Naga, I just need at least 3 configurable buttons ^^
So guys, what would you choose ? (:
Thanks !

How about a g400? Same shape than g500, less useless features and a better sensor for cheaper thumb.gif

I think most people in this forum out of the two would recommend the G500.
The Rat mice have a Phillips Twin Eye sensor, which doesn't work well with mouse lift off.

A number of users will no doubt recommend optical mice such as the G400, but you did mention you need 3 buttons. In which case I can attest to the G500, I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not really a fan of the "free wheel", I much prefer the wheel of the R.A.T 5, so I don't think that the g400 is the one for me ^^

Okay guys, I think I'm leaning towards the G500, but I haven't chosen yet wink.gif

Just to clarify the G500 has a little button, you can press that and the wheel mechanism will lock so that you have ratchets.
I like the free wheel when scrolling web pages, excel documents and code, but not when playing games, so I flick the button on and off.

Another thing to note and depending on how important this is for you, the G500 will also allow the wheel to move side to side, i.e. provide 4way movement on the mouse wheel. For me this was a major selling point. The G400 as far as I know does not have this feature.

While the g500 itself is a good mouse, the sensor does have acceleration issues. If you play high sensitivity (1600+) you probably wont notice them, too. I've owned both the g500 and the rat 5 and I find that the g500 is a better mouse, overall.

There's a last thing I need to know before I can make my choice biggrin.gif
The G500 doesn't have different profiles like the R.A.T 5, but it can be configured differently for each application/game, so we can say that there is 1 "mode" per game/application.
The R.A.T has 3 configurable modes that we can switch whenever we want, but can we configurate each mode differently for each game like the G500 ?
If not, then I will buy the G500 ! thumb.gif

You have to manually switch the profiles for the R.A.T. mouses while the G500 do it itself. The G500 also have onboard memory, so you can just install the drivers, configure your things then uninstall them.

So the R.A.T only has 3 profiles at the time when the G500 has one for each game ?
For example, if I play to GW2, will I have 3 switchable modes ? I just wanted to know if we can configurate the three modes for each game
I know that with the G500, if I start to play to GW2 the mouse will automatically switch to the "GW2 mode", but if the R.A.T 5 does the same thing with its 3 modes, it could change my final decision wink.gif
