Hello all,

First post for this forum - first hello too all!

OK; so it's been a few years since my first build - since 2008 in fact!

Back then, I was an avid builder/ bencher & a whole hearted gamer.

Anyway, forward in time till today, I am back to building my system of which follows: -

AMD FX 6200 Black Edition 3.80GHz Hex-Core Processor
ASUS Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX Motherboard
4GB Corsair Dominator Series GT TwinX DDR3
240GB Corsair Force Series GT SSD
1536MB EVGA GTX 480 Graphics Card
1200W Corsair Professional Series Gold AX Series PSU
Corsair H100 Hydro Series Extreme CPU Cooler
Corsair Obsidian Series 550D Case
Windows 7 Home Premium
Logitech G9x 5700DPi Laser Mouse
Logitech G13 Gameboard
Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard
Razer Megasoma Gaming Mat
Logitech Z623 THX 2.1 200W RMS Speaker System
23" Dell U2311H-S 1080p IPS LCD Widescreen Monitor

The system as you may have gathered, will be primarily used for gaming - I already have a number of components purchased (MoBo, RAM, SSD, GPU, Mouse, Gameboard, Keyboard, Mousemat & Monitor)

I will be looking to complete the system come the end of this month which I will include a comprehensive unbox updates as I go.

Answers for any incoming questions: -

- Why AMD?

Since my first build in 2005 (3500+ Newcastle) I've been a fan of AMD's socket longevity & culture. My last system being Intel, my most expensive and a system based around a QX9650 CPU; I have had my fair share of Intel and their constant socket changes.

This time round, I wanted to go for a PC that not every Tom, Dick & Harry own & maybe for good reasons but a more unique system which I can relate too.

- Why NVIDIA?

Again, I have preference to NVIDIA purely on the basis for driver optimisation & game profiles.

AMD produce some stunning cards now but for me CCC just isn't up there with NVIDIA's customisability; not to mention I managed to grab the GTX 480 for a total steal (£179)

As explained I will keep this thread up to date & give or take 3 weeks, some benchmarks & real world performance for the Bulldozer CPU.

nice, psu is overkill, even with 800w you would be good.

I would suggest getting 8 gigs of ram. What about a big hdd? You might need that space to store games and such.

Heya peeps - thanks for the replies!

Making the calculations, a single GTX480 can pull 250W at stock - possibly 300W+ with clocking.

The FX 6200 will pull again around 230W on load with other components - that's stock; so we could be looking at around 500-600W being pulled.

I'd like the flexibility of adding a second 480 as prices dip - the Corsair allows me to enjoy that luxury.

RAM wise agreed, 8GB would be great but presently 4GB is still enough - I can always add an additional two sticks at a later date. thumb.gif

Some Q's in regarding the GTX480 though -

- Will a 550D drown much of the sound?
- The EVGA backplate available worth it?

Will upload some goodies soon!

Thanks all!

I've set it up along with my G19 & G9x on the MacBook for now till the build has complete - limited on the Mac really, but enough to create profiles - I have to say the G13 is a MUST for Gaming.

The ability to place everything within a space where you do not have to move your hand + a 360 Degree Thumb stick allows for games like Starcraft II to be played so efficiently. thumb.gif

MMO - virtually built for it; when the new rig is up I will be able to test but the G13 is virtually perfect for something like WoW or even GuildWars.
