my first gpu prep ... Getting ready to bench - Page 7

ive been known to have a dumb moment every so often but never something that bad lol

getting close: just need to throw a heat sink on northbridge and wrap everything in towels and rubberbands


picked up two new thermoses from walmart

got the tek fat mounted to the 8800 waiting in the on-deck circle

i was telling FtW420 that i might look into setting up a live stream towards the end of the weekend if everything goes ok in the beginning... so its def a possibility

well i just crashed XP at -187c and tried to save it by flipping psu switch really quick for 2 seconds then flip back on and let the board kick itself back on... FAIL!
it wont boot lol.. it wont even turn on.. the power button light is on but it wont power up...
ive never experienced CBB before but im hoping thats what this is.. yknow, on second thought, maybe i crashed the BIOS... lemme go flip the other BIOS on



well its warmed up to -160c now and its turning on but boot cycling.. will let it warm up a little more and see whats up.. i may call it a day and save the rest of my ln2 for tomorrow. it may do me good to regroup and reflect on the things ive learned during my first ln2 session (only done dice in the past and only with sandy)

ok well its all good i think it didnt like booting at -187c.. i just booted back into windows and grabbed some screenies off the desktop..
well with 2 hours of ln2, i really only got 1 bench worth submitting. I spent a good hour or so trying to learn the chip and then the rest of the time running SPi 1m

i had this mem kit running at 1300 on an evga z77 so tomorrow id like to tweak my timings and freq a little to get it around there .. lesson: its easy to do when you keep bclk constand (like when you OC on air/water) but with ln2 youre always trying to push bclk so it adds another variable to the overall mem freq, not just the mem multiplier anymore. Tomorrow I wanna get a 32M and 1M with ~6500 core, ~1300 mem, with ~109 bclk (i had 109 SPi stable but at the time i was only at 4200 core), 10-12-12-24-1T. that would make me a lot happier. we shall see

EDIT: #&$*@#^$*#! I knew i was forgetting something! I freaking forgot to disable 2 cores and HT benching 2D ftw

EDIT: Also, is it more common to boot into windows with a moderate OC (say, 45*105) and then raise multi/BCLK in windows .. or is it more common to boot windows pretty close to for max (say, 59*105) and then slightly adjust to max (60*109, for example) ??

One more thing.. is it best to pull down in windows? like i did all my testing for an hour or so at ~-70, but then when I was ready to actually bench, I booted windows at ~-100c then once in the OS pulled down to < -180c .. does this sound about right?
