Can somone do an experiment for me? (thermal paste) (honey + graphite + heat)

Heres the story... I was looking into some "other" high fructose alternative thermal paste and another more acceptable substance came to mind.

Honey.

Basically I've seen post of people recommending honey as a paste but have yet to see actual benchmarks. I would like to improve the formula by adding ground pencil lead into the mix. The concept is that the graphite will be suspended within the stick honey forming a graphite/ fructose gel. Under sufficient heat the fructose should caramelize and turn into pure carbon thru sublimation. Thus both graphite and carbon should become locked into place an form a crystal structure, hopefully with high thermal conductivity.

Sure, what the hell. I'll give it a try in a couple hours if I can find some pencil lead. I can compare it to Indigo Xtreme I'm using right now. Since I have a new motherboard and CPU coming in tomorrow I might as well.

Edit: Can't find any honey at home.

Seems like a nice idea. I'll try it out, although currently my leg is in a cast for 2 more weeks and the spare pc i have is behind piles of stuff in the basement, so not sure I'll be able to get it out. Worst case, we'll wait 2 weeks and then get our answers.thumb.gif

Wow.. I never would have thought of Honey as a thermal paste..Once it caramelizes and carbonizes and stuff, if you turn the computer off..won't it harden and get cripsy? Then once you turn the computer back on..will its ability to transfer the heat still be there?
Why can't you do it since you need to know the answer? I'm just curious why you feel the need to allow others to do your work for you? I know I wouldn't want to try and clean warm honey off my cpu or anything of the sort. Thanks

This is a good point.

Test the mixture on the stove first. Put the paste in a frying pan with a heat sink on top. Fry it, and then let it cool and see if it is still jelly.

I can try when I get home if I have some honey.

Good idea, I'll try it too, and see if i can think of anything else to experiment with, we might even come up with a new thermal grease biggrin.gif

I bought honey tonight. Will start mixing it in a few minutes, once I shave some graphite pencils. I am an artist so I have different pencil hardness's and I also have some charcoal if that would be better.
