Buying my first laptop, got a long requirement list...

Whats going on guys,

I am getting a little older and more mobile, and i would like to be able to take a computer with me where ever i go... this behemoth of a gaming computer sitting next to me just cant quite go with me everywhere lol... so its time for me to get laptop... At the same time my brother is going to be replacing his 2 year old laptop, so we have come up with a list of requirements that a laptop has to have together, being that we are probably both going to get the same laptop... here is what we came up with:

-13.3" - 14" size
-LED screen
-3rd gen i5 processor
-SSD + HDD
-discreet + dedicated graphics (intel HD + Nvidia 6 series )
-back-lit keyboard
-under 1" thick
-USB 3.0
-10+ hour battery life

and all that for around $800 ( read, under $1000 )

thanks for any help...

Closest I can think of at the moment is the Acer Timeline Ultrabooks.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215392

It's going to be hard to find a small thin laptop with dual hard drive bays for the SSD and HDD. If you are wiling then you could toss the optical bay and convert it told hold the HDD and throw in your own SSD.

Unless you remove some of the requirements you might have to wait few years for technology to catch up if you want under 1" gaming laptop with two storage compartments and a discrete graphics card that has 10+ hour battery life. Most of the ultrabooks barely have 6+ hours just an FYI.

Damn dude, I spent last 7 hours searching for a laptop. I'm willing to spend more and half the spec requirements.
You might find some help on the thread I started.....

Good luck, seems like around here we can only offer kick a$$ advice on desktops! lol (no offense intended)

i saw that notebook... i saw that it has the 640M GPU, is that all it has or does it have a throttled down GPU for when you dont need and GPU processing horse power to save battery life?

Don't think you are going to find anything like that for your price range. The only two that come to mind are the asus zenbook ux32vd and the Sony vaio series.

Virtually any notebook with a modern Intel processor + a recent NVIDIA GPU has switchable graphics. The Acer TImelines are no exception.

There website is slow and a pain to search quickly, but they might have something closer to your expectations and your price range. JUst an idea to check them out.

Honestly my laptop has back lit keys and they are very annoying. The screen lights the keys up without the keys being back lit. Now my mother has a better laptop than me!

I like how the Starting price for the Lenovo listed was at $1,600 before reductions. If that's the case, then mine is worth $3,000. XD

But if the machine needs to be 13-14", the Acer there is your best bet. Nice deal for the performance it brings. biggrin.gif
