[UHI] 5 High-quality PC speaker sets - Review

While there isn't a huge selection of high-end PC speaker sets, there are some options out there if you're a music lover and want quality sound on your PC or laptop. We tested products by a newcomer in PC sound, and also a familiar face, and three studio monitor sets.

Which speaker set is best for depends on how you will use them and the environment. If you need to fill a large space, then you will need more power and larger speakers. If you like bass, then a subwoofer is not a bad idea. This is also true if you frequently play video games and watch action movies. If you primarily listen to music, then good stereo sound is more important along with a balanced sound signature.

How are you gonna know what's the low end of the review if they don't package in any mediocre speakers? whistle.gif

Edit; no Swans in this article... meh.

They rated those Bose speakers as the best? doh.gif

Seriously, this is a very biased review. I've heard the Bose Companion 5's...and honestly they didn't sound any better to me than the Logitech z2300 or the Corsair SP2500's. They all sound just as bad as each other to me. Not sure why the BX-5's didn't rate higher than the Bose personally, other than the lack of a "subwoofer" (for lack of a better term here).

So while they point out how flawed and inadequate the Bose system is, they still rate it the best? Stupid companies like this are the reason Bose still sells their overpriced paper weights. Want small speakers go get Gallo's (if they are still around). Relatively small, the Polk Audio RM series are actually pretty surpriseing. Honestly I would love to see Onkyo team up with Yamaha or Boston Accoustics for a nice mid priced 2.1 system, can dream for Onkyo and Definitive Technology but that would be pricey as hell lol. DefTechs would destroy anything on this list w/o a sub but then again your looking at about $250+ per speaker. Someone needs to educate the masses that there is better than Bose out there for the same price or cheaper.

Onkyo - http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-NR515-7-2-Channel-Network-Receiver/dp/B0077V88VI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1341825861&sr=1-1&keywords=onkyo+TX-NR515 - $348

Polk - http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Bookshelf-Speakers-Black/dp/B000V2UBS8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341825673&sr=8-2&keywords=polk+audio+RTi - $324

Definitive Technology - http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Technology-StudioMonitor-Speakers-Black/dp/B000TD6REQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1341826053&sr=1-4&keywords=definitive+technology+bookshelf+speakers - $274

$672 with Polk
$622 with Definitive Technology (my choice personally but I would take the 450s for wider sound range)

Bose : $561.00

Roughly $100 more and so much better sound and functionality! (AND ITS NOT PROPRIETARY!)

I have/had Corsair SP2500, Swan M50W and Edifier S730. The only one that met my requirements for pc usage was the S730 which is what i'm using. 10" DOOF DOOF biggrin.gif but very fast, tight and clear bass thumb.gif

Didn't both with Logitech since i tried the Z5500 and Z906 at the shops and they were complete crap.

I'd rather get a pair of Swan D1080IV or M200MkII over any of the sets in that review

Bit confused, I thought "PC speaker sets" would imply stuff like Logitech or Creative. "High quality" would include nothing but studio monitors pretty much.

I couldn't be happier with my Corsair SP2500's for gaming, music and movies.
